Spitfire into Battle – Group Captain W.G.G Duncan Smith
A good book.. Enjoy it..
Yes that would be correct, and another spitfire book arrived in the post today from my brother.
What Spitfire book did you get?
I am sorry that no one has responded until now. This forum gets like that…
I am sure you will find plenty of threads here where people advise you what is the best to buy.
My suggestion is to buy the best you can afford! If you can afford it, buy Canon lenses, and buy the fastest lens you can afford. ie. f2.8 or f4.
Most of the ‘better’ photographers are using original lenses, so I think their comments will be the same.
What body are you using?
The opening shots were taken at South Cerney airfield.
BBC and Fox news list it as a Mallard..

No survivors now…
What a loss.

Although it does not mention what plane was involved…
Ummmm…?
You might well say that…
A clue for you… DazDaMan.

I’m surprised that no-one’s mentioned…
I’m surprised that no-one’s mentioned…
But no one asked!!!!
…and in due course this will come to pass.
I for one will look forward to it….
Sad news..
I will miss him being around..
That looks pretty conclusive to me!
So, maybe, the real Heinkel in Spain gets into a spot of bother with its gear, a film crew is dispatched to film it (or the aftermath) a la Tora! Tora! Tora!, and they get a bonus piece of footage to use for very little effort?
I am not disagreeing with you, But, the crash scene is in the original script dated 26 feb 1968!?! What luck…
I’m with Dave on the replica being used mainly for interior shots, and the damaged real one being used later.
Sounds sensible as well. Well done Sherlock another mystery solved…
It’s interesting to note that, despite two sources stating that a full-scale, highly accurate replica Heinkel was built, there are no photos of it in either of Rudhall’s books.
I’m still convinced the damage to the glazing is near identical to the one in the film, reputedly using the replica!
I know Bob’s not around to ask but…. By God, I think you are right…
These two aircraft are the same…. The coloured bagde on the door is there..
I now what you mean…
What He111 did they use in the “piece of cake”? TV Series? was it the same one?.
No the crashed one was owned by Ace High at North Weald. G-AWHB. Spanish serial B21-57.
