The Vulcan has just been on East Midlands tv with a plea for cash from sponsors in the Middle East ! Not quite sure how many millionaires watch East Midlands tv in Dubai but worth a try I guess!

    Dear TVOC

Thank you for your interesting letter requesting further investment and sponsorship in your worthy project. Before I release the funds to your nominated offshore account, I would like to clarify that I will be able to use the asset to be sponsored on an if and when required basis (no questions asked) for my own personal use.

I look forward to receiving you favourable reply in due course.

    Kind regards

Debt is not a bad thing in itself, they just have to be able to service that debt. No doubt they have some form of overdraft facility in place just in case, they’d be daft not too.

Their requirements at present are to raise £600k a year for their monthly operating costs, not a big amount when it comes to sponsorship in real terms this could be easily raised from a group of sponsors. Return on sponsorship is really an un-quantifiable thing as there is no sure fire way for a corporation to know how much is taken in from a particular sponsorship deal such as this. However paying £100k to get the corporations name up in lights to a prospective audience of anything up to 100,000 persons at a time (RIAT) would be a drop in the ocean for most advertising campaigns.

The downside is that before those sponsors will dip into their advertising budgets, they need some concrete evidence that their money is just not going into a dark bottomless hole and that they will achieve some form of return. This is what is missing at the moment, sponsors see a constant demand for money and very little coming out of the other end.

TVOC are using the credit crunch as an excuse for poor management of this project.

To make it a bit more interesting, I would be willing to donate a prize to the taker of the one photograph voted the best taken over that weekend by the members of this forum.

The prize would be a print to A1 size on canvas of any photograph by that person. (This would of course depend on the file size of the particular photograph as not all pictures will blow up to A1). Not a huge prize, I know, but worth around about £80.

Imagine all of the books being wrong though!

This is not that unusual, during my research into the Great Escape I came across the same reference to Sqn Ldr Roger Bushell being shot down in a Hurricane, when the fact was it was a 92 Sqn Spitifire. It was clearly taken as fact from one book and copied by the subsequent authors without cross reference with the official records.

To save the hassle of posting a card around the world, why not pick the weekend nearest to 30 June (28/29 June) and and ask forum members to post a specific historic aviation linked photograph taken over that particular weekend.

The two stipulations are that is has to be to be historic aviation linked and taken on either 28 or 29 June 2008.

Whirlwinds didn’t see action during the Dieppe Raid of August 1942. IRCC the picture you refer to is of a 263 machine with white marking on its nose, I believe this was adopted for a “Dieppe” style operation prior to the real event. However this operation was aborted and never took place.

It’s far too easy to blame the lack of sponsorship on the present economic climate. They’ve been actively seeking sponsorship for quite sometime to no avail, lack of interest in sponsorship is not something that has suddenly happened due to the market forces.

    2) Islam is an oppressive ideology. In many interpretations it treats women and homosexuals as sub-humans.

Isn’t that the Catholic church ???

I think your well documented dislike for Williams got in the way of your judgment this time.

I’m got getting into the same old debate here, it’s been done to death in the past, however I refute the accusation that I dislike Mr Williams, I pity him, not dislike.
