RE: Belgian Pilots flying with the RAF

    Hi BRAF

Thanks for the extra info, I had no idea about his escape from France and this has enlightened me.

I’m gradually building a profile of this airman.

    Kind regards

    Hi Glenn

Any idea what colour HAC’s Hurricane is going to be wearing next year, I’m making strenuous enquiries in Canada to try and track down pictures of her in RCAF service to pass on to Guy and his team, but with no success yet.

Kind regards from a cold and wet Jersey.

    Hi Snapper

Somewhere back we are probably related, but there again I’m probably related to you as well if we travel back through the centuries.

Besides my parents and brother my nearest relative with the surname Le Sueur lives in Adelaide.

    Kind regards

I’d be interested in any information on Belgian Sqn/Ldr Henri Gonay DFC who escaped to the UK in June 1940.

He served with 5 OTU 12 July 1940
235 Sqn 4 August 1940 to 23 October 1940, during his time with this unit he claimed a Heinhel HE 59 of Seenotflug Kommando 2
    ?? EFTS at Odiham 23 October 1942
    58 OTU 23 June 1941
    123 Squadron 4 August 1941
    64 Squadron 15 September 1941
    131 Squadron 22 September 1941
    350 Squadron 14 November 1941
    232 Squadron 17 April 1942
    129 Squadron 31 August 1942
Central Gunnery School 2 November 1943
    263 Squadron 24 February 1944
KIA Jersey 14 June 1944 in Typhoon MN661

Any info would be appreciated, I intend placing a memorial stone dedicated to Henri on the 60th anniversary of his death in 2004.

    Kind regards in advance

    RE: Spitfire Mk.9e TE566

    Hi Guy’s

Looking at the pictures I tend to disagree, yes it is possible that this aircraft can be rebuilt, but using how many original parts?

Very few judging by the extent of the wreckage.

In which case the history of the aircraft has gone with it’s originality.

    Kind regards

    RE: Spitfire Mk.9e TE566

TE566 tragically crashed earlier this year in South Africa killing the pilot. The airframe was completely destroyed but by what I have heard on the grape vine it could be the subject of a rebuild using the manufacturer plates.

Kind regards from a wet Jersey.

    RE: EN830’s Favourite Spitfire

    Hi Kiethmac

    Great Pictures.

For the past 3 years I’ve been working with Guy Black and the Historic Aircraft Colelction (HAC) to document the history of their Spitfire, I probably have the biggest collection of pictures of her from 1942 through to the present day.

Would it be possible to get copies of these and any others to add to the collection. This year is her 60th birthday and I hope to be able to publish a Photographic Kaleidoscope (Thanks for the title Dilip (only joking !!!)) of her career.

Kind regards from a humid but grey Jersey.

    RE: My Favourite Aircraft

I would have to rate the Chipmunk in my top 10, the first aircraft I ever took the controls of. The VC10 CMK1 (See the world backwards with the RAF), Fat Albert hanging out the back over Wiltshire as a ATC Cadet in the late 70’s and also playing with the flight sim at Lyneham. Westland Whirlwind Mk1, just to see one in the flesh would be enough. Like most people the Spitfire means a lot, noise grace it’s something special, especially BM597 top of my top 10.

Then there’s the Hurricane, Hawker Nimrod 1, Fury Mk1 and Sea, Mosquito, P51, Dewoitine, ME109g, P47, P38, Firefly, Invader,

Oh Santa can I have a bigger bag please !!!!

    Ian
