BM597 was based there from May 1942 with 315 Sqn until February 1943 with 317 Sqn. I’m in contact with a number of Poles who with the various Sqns during this time.
Unfortunately I can’t make it as we are coming to the UK the following weekend. But like Snapper I will raise a suitable glass to his memory that evening.

Nah that’s not a personal attack š
Nah that’s not a personal attack š
If the new forum wants to preserve that atmosphere then best of luck to them, there are some nice people on Planetalk (a forum which given time will probably have its ups and downs just like this place) and some nice people on here. It just seems that this whole escapade has brought out the worst in people. I recommend that some people need a couple of weeks away from this place to see the bigger picture. Best Regards, Steve
The new forum was set up to bring back a time when the discussion on this forum (Keys) was, in general, of a more light hearted nature. Yes there is a certain amount of banter, but it shouldn’t be too hard for the average person taking a casual look to understand or even join in with, or as some people are quick to say “ignore” because it doesn’t interest them.
Now a days Key has become an over moderated dumbed down image of it’s former self. The forum shouldn’t be a formal place where people are not encouraged to post, because it will be deemed to be a personal attack, controversial or as has been done recently just boring. To come here should be like walking into a pub, where people talk about things that interest them, exchange views and opinions and sometimes yes banter among themselves.
Do you stop going to the pub because you don’t understand the banter ???? Normally you still go and start some of your own.

So for you EN830 it will be less than 12 square inches of flat sheet…and for me it is many many bags of sheet metal fittings, small castings and machined forgings.Mark
Not disputing that Mark, I realise that some parts could be recovered and utilised in a rebuild, in the case of TE566 from the pictures that I saw she ressembled one of the many photographs of the burnt out Spitfire on the beach at Dunkirk in 1940. The engine appeared to be detached and the cockpit gutted, leaving only the tail unit fairly intact.
But like I say, I’m not an engineer. I look at a picture of a car that is decribed as light off side damage and think how the hell can they describe that as light !!!!
How much of a crashed airframe would be used in a rebuild, I guess very little. I can’t say in what state PL983 ended up, I believe that it stalled and then crashed, so I would assume at the very least a crumpled mass.
However the former HAC Mk IX TE566 which was written off in a fatal crash in South Africa was virtually gutted, from what the pictures posted around the web show. Iām no engineer but I would hazard a guess that very little of that airframe would be suitable to be recycled for the rebuild that is reputedly happening in Brisbane.
Basically my point is that, all that would relate the new airframe to that of one that took a life either recently or 60 years ago would be the data plates. And we know that data plate rebuilds and the ethics behind them have been debated to death on these forums for quite sometime.

You’ve found a new friend as well š
Hearing about Spencer Flack’s G-Fire, -Fury and -Hunt takes me back to my youth, I seem to remember seeing them at Greenham in the late 70’s possibly early 80s, certainly some of the most memorably aircraft from that period.
What happened to the other two ?
Nah more interested in the real thing
Well when you do get some money, grant, dole or pocket money can I suggest the first thing you do is invest in a spell checker, or are you Stewarts alter ego ?
I have never been there and it is not far from me. Sadly i cannot make it i have other plans that weekend. I do keep meaning to make it over there.
I can’t make it either but hope to next year as well as OW one weekend with my feather duster. Ollie why don’t join the lads this weekend at OW or on one of the others, I’m sure they’ll welcome you with open arms, light work and all that.
Both time i brought my cameras i asked around and spoke to people who already had them and even tried them out before i chose.
Do you wear glasses ?????
An airworthy Heron for starters that is currently for sale.
Still parked up at the airport looking unloved.
I think it’s the save Concorde bit, or maybe the intention to return one to the skies. I think one or two maybe a bit sceptical of the intentions.
