I am working on the basis that the asi stopped at impact speed .
Why?
The mic is an army WS38 throat mic but with a US? connector fitted. Whether it was used in this configuration officially, I do not know.

“Tankbarrell” reminded me, I am sure I have seen very similar flame dampers on Army tanks.

Tanks usually have just a fishtail to redirect the flow and it’s not like any I have seen.

What is this item made of, from the pictures it looks like stainless that has been grit blasted which seems an unlikely material to have used in wartime.

Quite common in exhausts and other parts of aircraft at the time.

I found an identical one today at an autojumble amongst a box of ‘stuff’. It seemed to me to be a drum tap and indeed worked well as one!

Is this one of several pictures? Our Auster IV was also in the exhibition and I have seen the well known picture with the bus in front where you can just see the nose in the background but nothing like this.

If it’s the clip of it taxiing right to left amid plumes of water, I think it was just a normal P-38 on a semi-flooded airfield. It was shown whilst the narrator was talking about seaplanes but that means nothing….!

Indeed! However it wasn’t ‘derelict’ as reported on the other thread, the damage was limited to the tail. I suspect it deteriorated somewhat over time in storage though!

This is me moving the DC-3 from Ipswich airport to the 390th BG Museum at Parham in early 1995. Now moved on.
