This is me moving the DC-3 from Ipswich airport to the 390th BG Museum at Parham in early 1995. Now moved on.
385th BG, Great Ashfield. You can almost see my house from there….. Oh and it’s Saxtead.
I like the part where they say the people of Essex have signed a petition to support the Spitfire flying over Suffolk….
Many more from Suffolk signed it, some effort was put in to canvas opinion, I suspect the dissenter was still a lone voice.
We seldom received noise complaints at Bentwaters when the 81st TFW’s
A-10s operated out of there. But they were very quiet and we kept away from populated areas.
But then they did replace F-4s! Now they were noisy but it was all accepted as part of living in the area.
Frankly, one complainant amongst several thousand supporters puts her very much in the minority.
There is no way a laden fire engine will cross a soft, wet field.
Some poor b—er is going to be very disappointed.
(That`s bidder, by the way)Pete
Hmm, Meteor IV left bank.
Hi tankbarrell, on about tanks, and “Bouncing Betty” mines, I didn’t know until recently, that the HUMVEE was designed with the same width between wheels as the same as on their tanks. It appears that the tanks would set the mines off, and the Humvees would travel in the tracks of the tanks.safely.

Lincoln .7
Hmm, an M1 tank has track centres of 112″ and a track width of 25″ giving a between track dimension of 87″. HUMVEE is only 85″ overall so it would not fit in the track path at all.
Tankbarrel, 30 cyls must mean you’ve got one of those chrysler multibanks fitted?
Is it a Firefly?Bomberboy
Just a standard 75mm Sherman V.
It seems to be an American radial engine problem, but not just for those fitted to aircraft. A friend’s Sherman tank,( a Canadian M4 A1 ) is fitted with a down-rated Wright Whirlwind that requires the proceedure before starting.
Unfortunately this requires some poor B****r to use a hand crank and rotate it through 70 cycles.
I don’t have that problem on mine, despite having 30 cylinders, none of them collect any oil!
Bazza is correct. If you start a radial with oil in a lower cylinder, it will bend a rod at best or blow off a cylinder.
It used to be a slightly tricky westerly runway if not much headwind, will be better at the new length.
Only whole airframe in UK is Ron & Rex Cadman’s A-26C 44-34172 which is for sale at £100K inclusive
Not trying to be pedantic but that is Rod and Rex Cadman. 🙂
If used unladen it would be exempt from testing, would qualify for free, historic tax and could be driven on a pre 1997 B cat driving licence. If you carry anything in the trailer, it would all have to be plated and tested, would need to be taxed private HGV, assuming used privately only and you would need a C+E, the old HGV1 to drive it.
together with old ww2 tank tracks.
Anything still there? Any pictures? 🙂
