There were a multitude of reasons for those decisions, not just range.

IMO short ranged is short sighted.

With cruise missiles like storm shadow, -you don’t need range for deep strike,
the missile has all the range/legs needed.
This reduces demand on the striker but increase demand on the interceptor & AEW

We were taught a painful lesson during the Falklands war regarding aircraft range, it appears our top brass have not learned it.

We’re not having much luck with flags 😀 I’m sure our American brothers and sisters will see the funny side of it though.

The British politicians have been betraying their own people for decades… do you think they will hesitate when they can shaft the French?

    Nic

please refrain from making ridiculous sweeping statements. I find your public distaste of the British both borderline racist and insulting.

Yeah. And the french industry managed to create a plane (Rafale) that’s just as good as the Typhoon (better) while remaining cheaper. What does it tell you about partnering with other nations as opposed to doing it alone?

Why do you turn everything into a Rafale vs Eurofighter contest?

France managed to create a great aircraft with Rafale, as it did with the previous incarnations of Mirage. However, there is always an element of risk when bringing ANY product to market, and given the cost of developing such aircraft, it doesn’t make sense to take all of the risk.

The future of air power, right or wrong, lies in joint projects like F-35 I’m afraid.

With political union with Europe, I can forsee joint European defence decided at EU level, so France may not even get a choice about how it conducts it’s arms projects.

I received a 1/48 Airfix Buccaneer as a present when I was much younger, I tried lining the fuselage up, then it went back to the box and was never seen again! 😀

Lovely models, I’ve built up quite a stash but never have the time to start them.

Monetary creation will not solve anyone’s financial issues, history teaches us this. You risk hyperinflation, which is obviously disastrous and at the very least your credit rating, which is already very uncertain for France.

Unfortunately, I suspect France is next to join the PIIGS countries. 🙁

I should think it is in the French defence industry’s best interests to partner projects with various countries, at least this gives some stability.

I think our countries working together on defence projects is great, and long may it continue 🙂

The graves look very well tended to. I can’t help but think that if it were UK war graves in Argentina, they would have been desecrated many times over the years.

I should imagine that they meant to replace the Tornado fleet, not Eurofighter. Given that approval has just been given for AESA on the Typhoon fleet, I sincerely doubt (hope) they’re not thinking of axing it.

Oh my goodness, if it is a secret it does not exist ? I think I will pretend you are a secret then 🙁

That would have to be the most rediculous thing I have ever read, but on the flip side of that you have no problems talking pure fantasy then do you ?

What he’s trying to say is that you can make claims, but unless you can provide evidence then you can’t expect anyone to give those claims any credit.

If you work in the defence industry, it is very likely that you’re an academic, in which case this concept should be very clear to you.
