Everyone an their aunty thinks the Germans will go down the F35 route in the medium term. It may be that they choose to let the French supply them with a Rafale MLU or something to replace the Typhoon (given that the idea of replacing Rafale is not being discussed).

The notion of Germany joining Britain and Japan (were that to happen), makes not sense in the post Brexit age. Eurofighter was a product of it’s time and whether the French would unilaterally be able to replicate Rafale in the future is just as uncertain.

IMO a British-German-Japanese collaboration is much more likely than a French-German one. When was the last time France successfully developed and built any front line aircraft in collaboration with another nation? The British and Germans have past forms with the exceptional Typhoon and Tornado aircraft (albeit with their fair share of development issues)

However, will Japan really develop an aircraft with Britain at the expense of their partnership with the US? Doubtful.

You could start by entering that into the Wikipedia page πŸ™‚ That’s where most people will probably learn the basics about Whirlwinds πŸ™‚

    Yesterday’s man..

    Really?

Even now, you’re going to repeat the same mistake that people who are wiser than you or I have been making for years. I wonder how many people have laughed at him during his career when he suggested that Britain would leave the EU? This man has been continuously underestimated, and look at the result.

While mass immigration continues, and remains one of the major concerns for the electorate, it would be foolish to write him off.

Not a bad idea, he seems to be genuinely interested in our aviation heritage.

Nice updates πŸ™‚ Would love to have been there Sunday but had other commitments.

Are there any updates with the Jet Provost? A while back I remember someone saying it was pretty much complete and would run if you could source a jet pipe…

As unlikely as it is (to the point of being impossible) Argentina would be best relinquishing their claim to the Falkland Islands, in exchange for a defence partnership with what is one of the regions strongest powers – Britain. It would also mean that the Argentines could focus their defence spending in other areas, while saving costs. Britain would pick up another regional ally, one whose peoples share similar values (by peoples im not referring to politicians on either side).

Unfortunately the political situation makes this fantasy.

Thread title says fighter. If you’re talking purely air-air, Typhoon. /thread.

If you mean multirole, either Rafale or SU30 at the moment, though Typhoon will be on par with both in the not too distant future. (with each obviously having their respective strengths) If you mean interceptor, then again, Typhoon.

Elvington dont have the use of the runway. I gather it is covered in go carts, but we should be grateful that the museum were able to use it for so many years, hence the arrival of the Victor and Nimrod.

No go karts πŸ™‚ THey run super car driving days once a month, and the odd other event, but generally it is unused. Except for the aircraft which still regularly use it.

If you look at the link I posted above, the Director of the Elvington museum explains that the area of the site being considered is well away from the runway. It is an enormous site. I live locally, and TBH I don’t think it will go ahead. One of the other areas being considered has much better access, and the potential to put a motorway sliproad in near the site. It is also located near the university, a major local employer.

Someone has found a ‘creative’ way of demonstrating their displeasure with VTTS πŸ˜€

A commercial airport, with all of the associated costs, is much more risky than an established museum which already has planning guarantees for future expansion.

It is not beyond the realms of possibility that if xh558 remains at Doncaster, that eventually she will sit on grass outside, largely unloved, with people unable to touch it for weeks at a time due to airport safety and security.

    This is interesting;

28TH JANUARY 2017 BY YORKSHIRE AIR MUSEUM

“Recent press reporting and general community rumours have generated a series of questions from Museum supporters and visitors with regard to the future of the Museum, the adjoining airfield and possible housing development.

The current discussion on the future home of the Vulcan XH558 based at Doncaster has created further queries, especially with regards to a future home for the Vulcan project.

With this in mind, we thought it would be useful to provide the facts as we have them at this time…

…With regard to the current Vulcan issues and the future of XH558, we have a long standing agreement with β€œVulcan to the Sky” regarding future help and accommodation should it be needed and we continue to support them in this respect.

    Ian Reed, Director.”

    http://yorkshireairmuseum.org/latest-news/york-planning-the-museum-and-vulcan-questions/

Obviously nothing concrete, but at least a glimmer of hope. πŸ™‚

Finally, I do honestly wonder how many people want 558 to perform a ferry flight for the right reasons, and how many just want to be there with their big long lenses and rapid-fire shutter fingers so that they can grab some photos of the final final flight? I get the feeling some people just want 558 to be in the air again, for those dastardly OEMs to be proven wrong, for her to keep flying somehow in perpetuity….

Maybe on the forums, but I think people (including myself) are just so annoyed at what VTTS have done. It was obvious to everyone that keeping her at an active airport would be an enormous challenge, and believe it was done with the intention of keeping the revenue stream open, instead of doing what was in the best interests of XH558s long term survival.

Managed a flying visit the other day, the Buc’s new paint is stunning, can’t wait to see her finished. πŸ™‚ I’ve noticed that elsewhere online a provisional date for the Mirage has been mentioned (not by the Museum). I hope it is true πŸ™‚

I did have a look round the Meteor, but the cover somewhat ruins the view πŸ˜€ Looking forward to another visit when the weathers a bit warmer.
