It’s a Lancaster 😉
In my view XL318 should be at the top of the list. XH558 has been modified significantly for its civilian flying life, so is no longer representative of an in-service aircraft. XL318 went straight from RAF service to indoor display, the remainder have spent time outside, with inevitable deterioration. This means that ‘318 is the benchmark example for future generations to refer to, as the only Vulcan preserved indoors straight from service, in her original service paint (just look at how much store is set by original, unmolested Spitfires these days for confirmation of how important this is)
When XH558s flying career is over, I will no doubt agree with you. However, what can be a better representative of a type than one that can display any aeroplanes primary function?

indeed first helicopters then..

then ultimately to this
Malvinas will be theirs! 😮 what can the Typhoons do??
The Chinese dream jet? For all we know, the EF has better stealth characteristics, unless someone can provide some quantifiable evidence and not just Internet hearsay and conjecture. 🙂
I couldn’t be at the minster due to work, but thankfully the Lanc flew straight over my head. It’s been a while, I’d forgotten just how loud and spectacular those merlins sound 😎
The attention to detail is simply staggering 😎
Nice Stirling 😎
Would be good to see it in the air. Surely that’s the largest Stirling replica yet? (except for the prototype 🙂 )
Fantastic set of images again Brian… and what a lovely blue sky to shoot against! That was something at Duxford that sadly eluded me all the time I had decent camera kit…
Cheers
Pete
I suspect that in some of the photos at least, they’ve been manipulated to highlight the sky colour.
Still a fantastic set of photos though.
It would be fantastic to see one of these in the air, preferably with the Napier engine 🙂
Its just a CG model of the FGFA from an Indian artist.
realistically i have my doubts pakfa or fgfa will use a one piece canopy. not that it’s not possible.. in fact the Pak-fa’s canopy shape is very similar to theX-32 used two piece canopy, back part slides back like T-50
F-32 proposal uses one piece canopy
btw i wish some one would draw an Indian T-50 with OUT the fgfa modifications.
Is it just me, or does that X32 canopy look suspiciously like a Harrier one?
I have just been advised of a story running in today’s Morpeth Herald:

I’ve almost stopped laughing….. almost.
The good news is that at least the remaining airfield will be preserved, or rather left to deteriorate at its current rate. Perhaps Tony Robinson will dig it up in a few millenia… 😀
it’s sad about the museum, but I hope the locals are happy now! 😀 what a bunch of morons!
It’s unbelievable that something so rare, valuable, old, significant and beautiful is allowed to deteriorate like that now! There’s plenty of museums that would take an F4u in a heartbeat, and would be much better cared for!
Japan will not order an European fighter. It has nothing to do with the price. The Japanese are intrested in the technology, related skills and politcal support of the USA, when the military demand is of secondary importance only.
Given the economic, and most likely ensuing major political issues in the USA and their relation to China, I don’t think it’s so black and White any more.
However, id still say it’s more likely they will go with a US offer. This is a shame, as the Eurofighter has proven on various occasions that it offers the best combination of tech, abilities and affordability.
OK then guys. So how can we shrink the pilot’s head by 30% and solve this one?
🙂

Lovely Spit BTW 🙂
Such a beautiful form of flight, unfortunately all but lost to us now 🙁
