My tickets were booked yesterday, haven’t been to legends in 10 years, but I thought that if ‘Berlin Express’ can fly all the way from Texas, I can drive to Duxford from Yorkshire 😀
Was a civilian version of the Canberra ever proposed? I would have thought it an ideal candidate.
I can’t understand why people claim the French elections as a success for the EU. Nearly half the electorate either didn’t vote or entered a blank ballot, and 35% of those who did were so desperate to leave the EU that they voted for the French equivalent of the BNP.
The EU couldn’t care less about those people. There are enormous, growing numbers of people across the EU who want out, and if you include those who want major EU reform, I would say a massive majority. Yet, all you ever get from the EU is its ideological obsession with forming a United States of Europe, and that it’s 4 freedoms can never be seperated.
Who, exactly, decided on these 4 freedoms? I’ve never been asked. All of todays issues with the EU were predicted a long time ago by politicians of the left and the right, and contrary to the opinion of a lot of ‘remoaners’, leave doesn’t equal fascism. On the contrary, the greatest British socialist in recent memory was vehemently opposed to the political structure and neoliberal ideology of the EU.
Yes. But will they take this ‘not so near miss’ as an opportunity to significantly reform? or will they simply refuse as they have until now?
The evidence suggests the only way the EU ever reforms is by taking more powers, in which case even Macrons election will do little to help.
I’m glad Le Pen wasn’t elected, but it is a hollow victory for the French. They’ve avoided Islamophobia, Xenophobia, and antisemitism. Instead, they’re going to lose a swathe of workers rights, conditions and protections, have their pensions cut, work longer hours, and have their public services trimmed. Knowing how the French hate all of that, and strike at the first opportunity, there should be plenty of drama to come.
As if one complete blunder wasn’t enough for one day…
The main issue wasn’t even that she didn’t know the figures, she could have just said “I don’t have the figures yet, they’ll be in the manifesto”, and she would have got away unscathed. It was her cringeworthy attempt to lie and BS her way out of it which is the issue, which adds to the the perception that Labour are economically incompetent.
This is the last thing they needed, after McDonnells massive blunder the other day: http://metro.co.uk/2017/05/02/the-picture-that-john-mcdonnell-probably-doesnt-want-you-to-see-6609968/
All they need now is for Thornberry to pipe up against flag waving again to complete the set.
Wow 😎
Last time I came down the new scheme was maybe 80% done, and I agree, it is absolutely stunning. 😎
What are the plans regarding the other two? The pink one looks great as she is, but I assume the camouflaged one is in the queue for new paint? What a trio they will be, any plans to display them together? (I know you’re confined for space)
Excellent news! 🙂 Congratulations.
Any news on when the Mirage IV is having the last of the shrink wrap removed? Really want to come and see her assembled, but holding off until she’s ready.
This conversion does raise one interesting question: why, if it is possible to substitute a V-1710 so seamlessly for a DB605 in a Bf109…
…then why does the Merlin-engined Buchon look such an abortion?
I suspect Hispano were more concerned with practical aspects of the Merlin conversion over making the Buchon look exactly like a late model 109 😉 Plus, IIRC the Allison is a physically smaller engine than the Merlin.
UV damage from the sun… Blue2 lexan could be a cheaper alternative but would not last long if she is to be kept outside 24/7
So is it on the outside of the glass? If so a glass company (mirror manufacturer etc) should be able to polish it out.
There’s a company in York, only a few miles from Elvington called ‘Glass Supplies’ Blue_2, if the clousing is on one of the external surfaces of the glass then maybe it’s worth seeing if they will come and have a look at it? https://york.cylex-uk.co.uk/company/glass-supplies-14379390.html
I agree that polycarbonate / lexan has its draw backs, but protective films can be applied, including UV protecting films, which will stop the surface getting scratched.
I would imagine finding a replacement canopy would be tough,, a newbuild would be very expensive. I wonder if those kits they sell to polish automobile headlights would work to buff out the hazing?
They are for plastic lenses. Assuming the meteor canopy is glass, they won’t have any effect.
WHat is the cause of this clouding?
Preumably manufacturing a polycarbonate one isn’t too farfetched? I know that car windows are manufactured if that material for motorsport use, in small batches at reasonable cost.
Or would be happy for TFC’s Beaufighter to leave?
If the result was that she would be completed, to either static or airworthy condition, leaving would be a good result.
Surely Spitfire Mk.19 should be added as well.
I don’t believe all of them were pressurised though.
