Not that it helps for this year, or possibly even next, but would a similar event be welcomed in Northumberand? More to the point, would the pilots of small aircraft be prepared to fly all that way? What exactly do the owners / pilots expect regarding facilities at these events?

Seeing the HDU on the driveway reminds me of the Undercarriage Leg we moved from Hanningsfields on a trailer on the back of Andre’s Landy…. we got a few funny looks in the service station…..:D

    10 Feb 2008 UPDATE

Just a quick one for you all this week:

The lightning team are progressing the spine panel manufacture. Its slow work, but its getting there. They are ready to position the new fin as soon as the markings are applied.

The Vulcan skin repairs are progressing too. We had the first sunny day since October, so the Clico pins which were holding one of the panels on, have been removed and the panel riveted on. I have removed the stbd side fin root panels (Photos later). They are the last complex panels to be replaced and hopefully will be finished by next week, ready for fitting. The next job is to remove and replace the four huge panels on the fin itself! There are about 1000 avdel rivets in each one……..

The job we really need to get on with is the wheels – we need to get all of the wheels servicable! All we need is a swan-neck, bottle jack, wheel nut removal tool, a week off work, some sunny weather…………….

Thats it for now. Pictures to follow later.

I do beg your pardon – chopped was not really the best choice of words and yes you are right of course it was at the designated points :D, however after so much time as a static display some areas are showing various states of wear.

however I have heard rumors that she may be leaving Manchester, can anyone confirm that at all?

I think the rumours stemmed from the original plans for the MOSI extension which didn’t show her in the floor plan. Later an architects impression was released which did show her. Best speak to Nick Forder for the definitive answer….

I wonder whether anything survives? (except wl745’s chevrons……..)

Cullercoats would make sence – we used to go there quite often… I love co-incidence like that…

I’m so pleased it has a home! Irrespective of where it’s going, the point of preserving what we have has been met. Well done all!:D

Next question – will it have a roof over it?…………

Twin – the register reflects preservation. The preservation of aircraft in the U.k is overwelmingly military . Any new register will just reflect this again.
This is an issue that preservation as a whole needs to address in the U.K

    The register reflects museum preservation….

View this thread as a way of addressing any shortfalls in the register itself. Some useful things have come to light already….:D Perhaps this is a way in which ‘internet preservationists’ can REALLY change things for the better….

The fact that the average restorer has more opportunity to preserve military aircraft than civillian ones is perhaps not an indication of how biased we are, but more a reflection of the hardships faced when restoring / storing / maintaining civillian types….. as well as the cost of the average airliner!

😀 To be fair, although my mum said it was an Heinkel (111?), it could have been a Wellington! Her recognition skills ain’t up to much.

Odd to think that Me109 thinks NEAM is a scrapyard…. some things never change.
