BBC radio Newcastle had a short feature on their drivetime programme today (just before 5pm) which congratulated TVOC etc on getting 558 in the air and highlighted the fact that there are other vulcans in preservation. I know, because they interviewed me! – more to do withe XL319 being the Vulcan rep for Newcastle and Sunderland, but 558 got decent airtime there!

    WELL DONE EVERYONE!

here I am stuck at work, unable to get to the videos due to my firewall… 😡

I wonder how many people are now saying “I told you so!”. Shame on the doubters!

We have a Vulcan in the air!

I will clarify that, there is a complete VC-10 nose undercarriage and main undercarriage. There is a cockpit section aswel, but that is still used.
I eat my lunch next to the 211 most days! Will do some asking, but be patient, it’s a funny old place.

    Ok, thank you. PM sent

There’s also a complete RB211 siting on a stand down here, not sure whos it is, could be TES aviation. Definately abandoned.
Oh, and a complete nose and one main gear of a VC-10.

Where? saints? I’ll bet there in the morning! 😀 The VC 10 nose could easily be turned into a simulator irrespective of the condition, and High Bypass turbofans are like Rocking Horse faeces…. Could I kindly ask you to do a little detective work for me please?

The Victor fast taxi runs at Elvington invariably deploy the chute.

I think the idea is that it is easier and cheaper to repack a chute than to find a new set of Victor brake pads at Halfords 😉

I’d guess the same will apply for the Vulcan

    Rob P

That was certainly the case when I was there a few years ago. We did a round the country tour collecting brake pack parts for Lindy to keep us going for a while, but as you said, its easier to re-pack the chute than to replace the brake packs IF you can find the parts…..

That said, I’m sure TVOC will have a huge supply of brake packs, and of course the ability to have new pads made up thanks to the OEM support.

(If Halfords sell the Lancaster and Spitfire Haynes manuals, are they about to keep service items also?…….;) )

I urge you to contact smash and grab at St Athan, they have plenty of bits, and have heard rumour they might have to have a bit of a clearout.
    Definatly worth a try though.

They are on the phone call list tomorrow – along with DARA, RR Filton, RR Derby, Westlands, and Stafford…. Thanks for the heads up though!

The reason I’m asking for things in this part of the forum is twofold – one, all the basic kit which is found on the early jets is perfect for explaining the principles of the item in question, and is generally cheaper to aquire rather than a brand new Merlin Rotor head…., and secondly – we are the proud owners of two JP Mk3’s which are to be our instructional airframes – XM355 and XM419. If we can find instructional items of a similar age to the JP’s, we will have continuity throughout. When the students leave us to go to the EASA 147 academy up the road, they will get to play with a 737-200 and JT8D engines, so they are still using older kit. As it happens, I’m busy sectioning a JT8D and a whirlwind MRG….

thank you for the response so far! the people on this forum never cease to amaze me.

Could have been scrappies…. they nicked a jetstream fin from my place of work a while ago, and neam have had them climbing the fences to take stuff…

I sincerely hope it turns up.

Do urban explorers really need to break into / gain access to sites like Long Marsden for OUR benefit? Surely to judge the plight of aircraft in such collections, it is much easier for someone who really cares about the aircraft to give the owners a ring and arrange a viewing?

IMHO entering restricted or private property is ILLEGAL at all times, no matter what the outcome.

Anyone connected with aircraft restoration/preservation can quite easily find out the state of ANY ‘preserved’ aircraft in the UK, either by contacting the owners directly, or by using organisations such as the BAPC, or by paying an entrance fee and looking themselves.

I have no sympathy with ‘urban explorers’, or as I like to call them, ‘tresspassers’… and they all should go explore Spadeadam ranges during the week…..:D

Good to see something else moving!!

Alive, but only just. Lets not get carried away.;) Hopefully we should have some Vulcan paint news by the weekend. 😀

We now have the pilots notes for the Avro 707A and B, and Pilots technical training notes for the Vulcan B1 and B2. As it happens, some of the pages may be used to train the next generation of aircraft engineers – the schematics of the fuel / hydraulic / N2 systems are very good, and very simple! (reletive to Airbus…). All Vulcan news is thanks to The fake John, Britannia, Michael, Richard, and the Axeman… I don’t do anything – only deal with international companies and make sure the lads don’t kill themselves….

Still looking for an F86D interior – all panels, etc.

    😀 😀 😀 😀

Just trying to make up for upsetting Steve H a few months back…..

So at this forum meet, would it just be ‘tea and cakes’ or is someone going to organise a proper ‘behind the scenes’ visit?

The BAPC meeting at DX earlier this year was treated to the whole presentation. Looks impressive.
