Are you using the water soluable paint to cover it? If so, when we did the trial, it worked fine, so it should be ok!!Glad to hear the artwork is fixed… maybe I’m just being picky! Good effort guys

Even the Lamella hangar has gone now. Nissan bulldozed it last year and didn’t tell anyone. Listed building too! NEAM have a small section of it, maybe a girder I think. I really should walk over and ask…. There is nothing of RAF Usworth / Sunderland Airport left. Just some lumps in the ground where the RAF buildings used to be.

Give NEAM all your money!

Please tell me that the finished nose art is a better job than the full size trial run that was kept in the office over the winter. I’m afraid to say that it was not good…. It just didn’t look right.

I hope the artist has corrected the glaringly obvious mistakes.

Well done Ben, Dan, Paul, JOHN and BOB (hindered by me til January)
And of course Bruce Irvine (Classic Aircraft Maintenance Ltd)

Here I am, less than 400 yards from her… Not only has the airfield gone, but also most of the mag alloy skin… such a shame. Unless Neam get some funding and a big hangar to keep her in, she’ll be the next to get the chop.

Would they be prepared to donate?… not that I’m in a position to look after them, but I’m sure more museums would be prepared to collect them if they were free… Any ideas about price?

I wish I had a spare hangar…. oh, and alot of cash

Has anyone thought of contacting HHA (Hawker Hunter Aviation)? They are involved, as I’m sure you know, in using hunters, a Mig, and hopefully a Buccaneer as dissimilar aircraft trainers in the combat agressor role. They might be able to lease the aircraft and use her as she was intended – being agressive! Just a thought…

Lets hope that no matter what happens, she stays in the air. I heard a story that not too long ago she was involved briefly in a bit of a mock dogfight with some RAF Tornados and managed to beat them off… any truth there?

James,
I think Lindys Lad might be having withdrawl symptoms seeing as he has just finished working on a ,soon to be airworthy, Lancaster……..

As he said to me a while ago, beats working on 737’s! 😀

Cheers, Alan

You are quite right. I do miss the old girl, but sadly I’m off to belgium tomorrow to play with an A300……

I do like creating controversy. Thanks again to everyone who has posted!

Before everyone starts howling with laughter, I’m a spirituallist medium (and aircraft mechanic).

I have spent a fair amount of time around the lincoln at cosford and have not picked up anything significant. I know that talking about ghosts tends to rub alot of people up the wrong way, so I’ll make it brief and please note, THESE ARE MY PERSONAL BELIEFS AND I DO NOT EXPECT ANYONE TO TAKE ANY NOTICE OF THEM!!!! I’m simply answering the thread!

All I could sense was residual energy as opposed to a proper haunting. It has been said that every building or structure (aircraft) where someone has lived, worked or died has the potential to be haunted, so perhaps this is just the energy left from when the aircraft was in service. Maybe it has special memories connected to it, or even just the aircraft type.

Alot has been written about haunted airfields, and even Living TV’s Most Haunted program visited North East Aircraft Museum a few years back, so I’m not going to elaborate here.

Just keep an open mind…..

Abingdon Way, Brooklands Way, and Didcot Way… just southern UK airfields, but the streets are in West Boldon, near Sunderland, Tyne and Wear!

Also, go to http://www.getmapping.co.uk and run a street name search. Can’t find anything for Saunders Roe, but Brabazon, Spitfire, Griffon, Halifax, and Lancaster all come up with a good few suggestions.

Surely I have better things to do than this…..

All glossy black small business type jet at roof top level across Goole 14.15 heading east. Looked a lot like the aircraft that work on contract with the Hunters. Are they on the east coast ranges today ?

Possibly FR Aviation’s Falcon 20’s or BAe Dominie?

My apologies to our southern hemisphere cousins… by “resurecting” the southern Lancs, I meant return to flight…. I certainly didn’t mean to put any noses out of joint. I am an aircraft engineer, and an avid enthusiast of airbourne aircraft, and possibly obsessed with seeing more than two Lancs in the air (together?!)

Thanks for all the posts so far…. lets hope that someone can confirm Mr. Week’s plans…

And another thing to spark debate… if he did get the beasty airworthy, RAF camoflage, or Canadian transport colours?….choices choices…

You could always badger Kermit Weeks to get his Sunderland painted properly and its turrets re fitted, and then persuade him to offer carribbian cruises (like Plane Sailing used to do)….. maybe he could buy a Martin Mars too….

One had to dream…

Buy Leconfield instead as soon as the army naff off. 5 hangar (202 sqn RAF) still has bullet holes in the concrete from the baedekker (?) raids, and all the runways are intact apart from a roundabout planted on one of them….
Shame about Driff, I guess it will become a housing estate or industrial estate. I know the white hangars were condemmed a few years back, and I even looked at buying one of the officers quarters, but they were knackered too. Cheap but rotten. RIP RAF Driffield
