Hi guys, this my first time on the forum. I see some of you are using the Canon 20D, I am think about upgrading from Canon EOS 5
to the 20D. I have read on some camera web sites there are some problems with the firm ware i.e. the 20D just shut down.

So my question is, is it worth waiting until Canon sort out the bugs or have they sort out the problems.
One think I cannot find out is how many high res Pict can you get on say a 2 gig card

I would much appreciate any help and advice you guys cold give me on this one.

    Dave

    Hi Dave, welcome!
Not had any shutdown problems yet – firmware can be updated anyway

I can get 250 High quailty jpegs on a 1Gb card so I guess 500 is likely

Marine Salvage had a derwent for £650 a while back – and avons for 2 grand!!!

I’ve got a palouste, it cost me £1200 – they’re quite ‘portable’ and often cheaper than this..

    Ah!

cheers – off to practice… (metaphoically speaking as it’s dark!) 🙂

Thanks again chaps – maybe this is a dumb question, but what’s ‘IS’?

I’ve been a bit disappointed so far with the pictures I’ve taken with the 20D, but I guess I’ve got used to the compact doing it all for me, I feel like I’ve got to learn more skills to get as good a shot as I did with my old 35mm.

mind you – it has been crappy and dark for weeks – I’m waiting for sunnt days to put my mind at rest!!!

Thanks Rob – my teleconverter is a bit on the cheap side, and kind of freaks out the auto focus, so I’ll have to focus manually – which I suppose is a good skill to keep, and it supports the lens a bit more…

Roll on the shows – Maybe I’ll even shoot something worth posting! 😀

How do you get to look round this area nowadays?

when I was a kid you could just walk right in, past the blokes playing football! and around the aircraft, but one day I got ‘escorted’ out by some raf blokes in a land rover…

I think it is in Alex Henshaws book, where he describes the skew gear failures that used to happen occasionally on the RR Merlins, apparently the Packards didn’t suffer from the same problems.

read an article on Packard cars which suggested that RR Merlins had a shorter lifespan than the Packards too.

I hate to think anything might top the Rolls Royce product, but it might actually be true…
