    Really nice images. Thanks chaps!
I guess the question I would have is are these detailed based on photographic evidence or an educated guess for the Codes etc?

Took a trip down to Goodwood yesterday 01/06/17 – First time visitor so not really knowing what to expect.
Had a wonderful couple of hours in the sunshine and got to see RR232, looking rather nice in her new colours, head off for what I think must have been a photoshoot with one of the locally based Harvards.

Hope you enjoy these few snaps as she took off.

I think this is a very interesting and smart move by TFC! There are clearly a number of issues surrounding the Bristol engines at this moment in time which require further examination and rethinking of 1940’s technology, processes and design.
In the meantime they have gone to what I should imagine are very long lengths and mountains of CAA paperwork to add the R-2800 as an option and get the aircraft back up as a usable asset until such time as the Centaurus can be proven viable.

Who knows their experience with this project might enable other reworks or stop gaps allowing other aircraft with engine hold ups to be considered viable projects again.

If I recall this display correctly did it not include several vertical climbing rolling manoeuvres. I remember thinking that you don’t see that very often in a spitfire!

    Good Morning

I was Lucky to be able to witness the first official start of the 350hp Sunbeam Car at Beaulieu yesterday. Quite an experience to see this 94 year old engine bursting into life.
Does this make this engine the only running Sunbeam Aero engine in the Northern Hemisphere

Link to Sky News has photos and a short video clip.

    Will do Bruce

I had already cleared a space for it in the garage, so it can sit face down, as the radiation issue had crossed my mind.

    Thanks
Having had a look it seems with the high top speed indicated on the ASI of 550 MPH it would put this panel as having come from one of the faster fighters possibly Tempest.

Would these have still had the straight topped Panel? I assume this depends on space in the cockpit having looked on google for images of Tempest/Typhoon cockpits they seem to have rounded.

    Piston Provost

Just watched some practice aerobatics south of Yeovil by the Provost based with the RNHF at Yeovilton. Wonderful to hear the sound of an Alvis radial looping and rolling about the sky!

Hi not 100% sure on the Parking outside of the Museum at the moment as I know there is some building work which has closed half of the road off that the museum is on. There is a large public car park at Ocean Village just over the road from the museum and I would suggest that this is your best bet for parking.

    Hope that helps

    Arab

I am sure I have seen a Sunbeam Arab in the Historic hangers at the RAF Museum.
Also I understand there are plans to return the Sunbeam Manatu (spelling?) from the Sunbeam 350HP at Beaulieu to running condition! Although a long term project I believe this will be the only running Sunbeam Aero engine in the Northern Hemisphere!!
It’s a very intresting engine having been designed as a bit of a hodgepodge of several other engines with a few new bits! It is also the sole survivor of this type only a couple ever being made and this one also being the first to get a car past 150MPH

Yeah she has (had) surface cooled radiators between the wheels so the cooling surfaces would be quite large.

It is a fantastic car the way the body and engine are streamlines are very reminissant of the Supermarine aircraft built around the same engine at the same time I’ve always thought.

    Cars at Beaulieu

Hi, I can tell you at Beaulieu they have 2 Lions the one in Golden Arrow which I belive is the original for the car and a second sectioned engine on display next to it so that is two I’ve never seen any more there and I’ve been all over that place for many a year now. I’ve added a couple of photos of Golden Arrow taken with the covers off about 2 years ago whist some work was being carried out on the bodywork.

In this one you can just see the corner of the sectioned eninge.

They do how ever have some of the rarest of aero engines there in the cars especially the three Sunbeam eninges.
The Sunbeam Manitou V12 in the 350hp Sunbeam (later Bluebird Mk 1, which was the first car to 150mph) is being restored to running condition, hopefully this year, after a long restoration which has necessitated the manufacture of a couple of new rods and some very impressive stich welding. I have been very privaliged to help with this restoration recently and the guys there are doing a wonderful job with very little funding.
The Manitou was only produced in very small numbers i belive 14 were built and the one in the 350hp car is totally unique to the type having had we belive various valve parts from a Sunbeam Arab added as well as other modifications for the record runs. We beieve that when it runs it will be the only running Sunbeam aeroengine in the northern hemisphere!!!

The other Sunbeam enignes are a pair of Matabele V12s in the 1000hp Sunbeam (even though each eninge produced under 500hp) which was the first car past 200mph.

Sorry to have gone off topic a little but I thought you might be intrested in this little snippit of aero engine news and this seemed a good place to add it.
