Great to see DP doing what he does best……
Top class pilot too……
🙂
Looks a good evening Dave, saw the Hurricane south of Norwich today fairly well throttled back trying to see its way through the haze.
Was a bit hazy but the air to air’s came out ok…
🙂
Excellent!!
See you there….
If anyone else is interested, there maybe a few tickets left…
🙂
I’m not saying it’s bad and shouldn’t be done.
It’s probably outside the rules but some would say they are there to be broken.
Some countries are a lot less strict than ours I guess, they probably suffer a lot less from nimby’s also.
Yes, it probably is on a par with flying across a stretch of water, the risk and thrill are more than worth it to some people.
I’m sure DBW can remember times gone by when, as leader, I’ve led him into some questionable situations.
Someone who shall remain nameless just returned from a contract in southern Iraq flying a commercial high wing turboprop. In his own words he says it was the best ever flying, when asked why, the answer was that there was absolutely no regulation. No straight and level, no two departures or arrivals the same, steep approaches to make City Airport look like a picnic etc etc.
I know it’s impractical to have no regulation over here but it does sound like a lot of fun….
A few years back there was a fatality at a UK glider club.
A lady and her friend were taking an evening stroll along the side of the runway when a glider landed behind them (almost silently of course), the far leading edge of one wing struck one of the ladies on the back of the head, killing her instantly.
This particular glider was probably travelling at 40 knots or so……
Thank you both, one way or another my feet are seldom on the ground :diablo: fnarr fnarr indeed!
Oooer missus!! TMI…
See you tomorrow (today actually)
Aircraft type?
500′ rule? (probably not applicable in this case as it may well be in a country that doesn’t have one)
So if the mill stops – convert speed to height (not very high probably), land into the inevitable trees as slowly as possible or belly onto a convenient patch of sand next to the river.
As the area looks like sparsely populated tundra, it might be that if one does survive a forced landing it may be a while before one is found, alternatively it might be a long walk out, fighting off the occasional peckish grizzly bear……
😉
How the heck does one go about winning the breakfast patrol anyway? How close do you have to get without being spotted, I mean od you have to pop out from behind the trees?
Ha Ha!!!! We know what you are getting at there!!!
Seriously tho, we won fair and square – arriving in the overhead without our reg numbers being noted by the ‘defending’ aircraft. That’s not to say we weren’t spotted because we were but, in the case of one particular ‘attacking’ aircraft (who’s crew will remain nameless), during the ensuing chase and ‘dogfight’ our reg’s remained unread.
Jolly good fun….
😉
I’ll try and keep this simple.
Then you pop-up on a very sad thread with a posting that is incorrect in virtually every respect and which some could consider insensitive to boot.
Moggy
Very insensitive, it’s contribution such as this that instills anger in people, particularly me. There’s no need for it.
😡 😡
You might like to review that answer Robert.
Moggy
Mr Moggy. Don’t worry about RW, as ever — on every contributed thread, he has exhibited a demonstrable lack of technical knowledge, an inane lack of sensitivity and a continuing, and embarrassing, lack of knowledge of English grammar. Also, it seems, persistent pathetic attempts at sensible contribution.
Long may it continue — about THE only source of entertainment on this entire forum..
😀 😀 😀 😀
Shame how a simple post to invite people to come enjoy a nice day has been hijacked by someone with a personal vendeta against Sywell 🙁
Spot on 😉
Mr Y139,
Sir, you seem to know a lot about this and, as you have written proof, perhaps you would care to answer your own questions, it seems you are trying to put other people in the unenviable postion of commenting on somewhere where they make their living.
Blue Max has a great deal of responsibility regarding the airfield in question, I wouldn’t expect a man in his postion to answer questions such as you have raised. The only people qualified to answer such queries are the airfield management. They have their reasons, talk to them about it.
Well said that man 🙂 and i am not gona get into any Mud slinging C**P on here. All i will say is that as far as i know 17 pilot have not been banned only certain mebers of a certain group who apparently have not been paying their said hangarage.
Fair do’s — hangarage has to be paid.
If all you can do is spread total Bo****ks instead of injoying the flying then i carnt be doing with you, get a life!!!! and more to the point get your facts right before posting on here and spreading gosip.
If you dont like Sywell, fine, your desision but leave other people to enjoy it.
Couldn’t agree more
We need to encourage interest in GA not squable amoungst ourselve!
We have enough problems in our pastime from outside influence’s these days without s**t from the inside as well.
Spot on — there is far too much of this about, we should all get along and provide a united front.
Unfortunately it doesn’t work like that.
Unfortunately any reasoned argument just encourages them. One must just laugh, but be wary that “there’s a lot of it about.”
Absolutely right, however, in the UK , we must be aware that, unfortunately, the authorities listen to these people more than they listen to us.
It took ONE person’s complaints to severely restrict flying at Crowfield, people like Morris-Driver have a lot of weight…..
Cranfield has aspirations towards an airpark, but they have been very slow getting their act together.
There have been a number of similar plans for elsewhere in the UK.
I think that Verchocq faces a number of challenges which the owners have had difficulty getting their minds around:
1) The Pas de Calais, whilst undoubtedly French, is not far South enough to get you away from the indifferent weather of northern Europe.
2) The British, by-and-large, are not “back to nature” types, and the idea of living in a wooden hut on a field, does not match many people’s idea of Utopia.
3) At Verchocq, you cannot own the land on which your hut is constructed. The owner has gradually been persuaded to extend the length of the leases that he is offering, out to 11 years now, but that is still very short.
4) The suggestion that you can mitigate the short-lease issue with the ability to dismantle your hut and erect it elsewhere is frankly not going to cut it.
5) The runway is too short (and too sloped) for the average spam can to make it across the water 3-4 up with anything other than very low fuel.
6) Customs is unavailable at the strip, forcing the pilot to land elsewhere both inbound and outbound, before being able to fly in to the strip.
Despite several launches on internet sites such as this, progress at Verchocq seems to have slowed from its previous pace a couple of years ago. The new runway alignment (giving a rather safer length) is still not in place. The swimming pool, long promised, is nowhere. The first huts, now long promised, are still not there to see, so far as I am aware.
Given a proper airpark development, this might stand half a chance. As it is, I don’t see the marketplace for it.
Well Trinny – I guess that’s p!ssed on his strawberries….
