Burgers and Bud, manning the museum stand in the exhibition hangar, wall to wall people, lots of people having thier pictures taken in front of our scale Sea Harrier on the ramp, even some  writing down its serial number.
My youngest son having his picture taken as a 7 year old in a Royal Marines rigid raider, now he is a Royal Marine Commando, memories indeed, let alone the aircraft.[/SIZE]

JDK, thanks for the heads up. High Level (Javelin) lift is still out of order and will be tomorrow. Sure it won’t spoil our day out tho. Pub lunch afterwards…. tough at the top!! 😉

Just to let everyone know, both the lifts in the Cold War Exhibition were in full working order today, I used the high level one to go up and have a bird eye view of the Javelin and to get ‘Aerial’ shots.

Can we please stop calling this place a museum, it gives all genuine museums a bad name as well as all the hard working people who look after the exhibits, scrapyard yes, museum no

Remember it well, watched it happen standing outside the museum restoration workshop, the veteran in the back was attending a function at the museum, if I remember he also ended up in hospital having a problem with his heart, for the life of me I can’t remember what the event was though.
Only looking at some pictures of the Firefly in happier times tonight, saw the wreckage a few weeks back, very sad, RIP guys

PM rang me today saying that he would not like to see the aircraft scrapped so if any group would like to remove the aircraft he can donate them.

Those of us who have been here a while will all recall the identical arguments about the AAM at Duxford (a.k.a Concrete Woodlouse).

    The lottery funds landmark buildings.

If you want lottery money given to you, then you build something that meets those criteria and you put aircraft in it.

If you want to build a big rectangular shed to keep aircraft in it you buy a lottery ticket and hope you win.

That’s the way of it, and all the bleating in the world on here won’t make the blind bit of difference.

    Moggy

Having been involved in 2 lottery projects over the last 10 years I have to agree with Moggy, we were lucky ten years ago to get what we did, if we had submitted our plans now there is no way we would have got our grant. The paperwork for the application has increased beyond all reason, the smaller hangar type buildings have been granted money probably because they fall below the national grant level and are dealt with on a regional basis which seems to be less of a nightmare to achieve.

‘seaking 93. I am not surprized to hear that Yeovilton Museum has a Falklands display. But I am going to guess that the relavant aircraft are going to be well hidden behind the ‘information panels’ Yeovilton, like most museums, has many large exhibits which simply can not be appreciated in door ,let alone photographed’

Actually all the aircraft in the exhibition are positioned so that someone with a decent camera and who knows how to use it can get good images, just look at some of the photographs posted on UKAR etc from inside various museums recently to see what I mean.

In reply to a previous post, the FAAM at Yeovilton will open an exhibition about the Falklands on 4th April, it will centre on the Sea Harrier, Lynx, Wasp and Wessex 3 supported by information panels, ships models and artefacts, its planned to have it in place until November.

No Mike they didn’t. This one is operated by the Northern Lights Co. under contract to the Canadian Government for work similar to FRADU, probably hence the visit. However, I thought they were all in Canada and this one seems to have a “Team Apache” insignia on the nose:confused:

As a matter of interest the Canadian Hunter was using ‘Apache’ as a call sign, as for ZZ190 and 191 they are not painted like the FRADU Hawks as they are actually nothing to do with FRADU but are on a contract with BAE Systems involving the PAAMS/T45

How does Culdrose make this list?, it didn’t open until 1947, 60th anniversary airshow on 1st August 2007 might be a clue, also the original tower at CU was demolished some years ago, now Yeoviltons tower was in use in WWII, however this was also demolished in the latter half of 2006.

‘As FMK.6JOHN points out, it was 3 years ago and the model has since been auctioned at Christies with much Concorde memorabilia to whom and where I would be interested to know. Is it the one at Yeovilton?’

The model at Yeovilton has been there for many years as part of various Concorde exhibitions, at least 21 years to my knowledge
