Sorry forgot to say, positioning of barriers around aircraft, why did they bother, the aircrew just let everyone walk through them anyway, except the Jetstream T3, the barriers around this one followed the shape of the aircraft, totally stupid

Totally agree about the toilets, the company that runs the show trying to save money, Traffic, not much you can do about that due to the local roads, More Harriers, chaps thats all there is, only 8 airworthy at the moment I believe, plus 3 T8’s

Anyone know what the SHAR farewell flight is at Yeovilton?

Heard it was going to be a mass flypast of 16

There aren’t 16 airworthy Shars anymore as far as I know

May just be me that thinks this, but i reccomend you don’t visit the ‘Museum of Peace’ in Caen. It’s expensive, and personally i thought it wasn’t that good at all, the only good thing for me was the replica Hawker Typhoon hanging from the roof, but it’s free to go into that bit (shop, foyer area)

Sorry to disagree Rlangham, but I would recommend the ‘Memorial'(Museum of Peace) in Caen, visited more than once over the years, last visit met a group of 101st/82nd Airborne guys on a visit 60 years on, very thought provoking looking at the museum and talking to the airborne vets. Also a nice Mig21 in the new extension, I would say that any ‘beaches’ tour should include the Memorial.

    Afternoon,

Any news on these aircraft? I’ve just read about them on Thunder and Lightnings. Shame to see the Fleetlands example a shadow of it’s former self.
    J man

‘Shadow of its former self’ XJ481 was cleaned up and had its markings touched up etc for the 899NAS disbandment day, its now stored in ideal climatic conditions inside Cobham Hall at Yeovilton, walked past it today, its looking good, come and see for yourself on the next open day, 16th of September from 1000 to 1600
    End of commercial 🙂

The first one that gets recovered will be cannibalised to make a flying Seafang. 😉

Often wondered if there are any Attackers hidden away in Pakistan, I always say that the FAAM Attacker is the only KNOWN example to exist.

No, the fuselage sides in the photos crumbled to dust due to the fire damage and corrosion, the largest item left is the engine cowling which is in store at Cobham Hall, for those interested it can be seen on the next open day, Friday 16th September.

Checked this morning, the spar in the earlier photo of HMS Vultures still exists as does the cowling plus a box with other ‘bits’ recovered from the fire damaged cockpit section in the photo.

This appears to be the the Carlisle example albeit with a tad more corrosion.

    Is it still extant?

Do you my eyes deceive me or is that a Hunter?

Yep, a Hunter, out of Chivenor if I remember correctly, had a problem so the pilot pointed it out to sea and ejected, the aircraft then turned and flew back towards the coast, result as you see in the photo

Yes Tintagel 6th July 1979. A/c abandoned over the sea, but it turned inland, and ended up as seen,;- there were no injuries.

Thought it was, remember it well, I was working at Culdrose at the time, they scrambled lots of helo’s with medical teams to Tintagel as the reports said that the aircraft had come down on the town. They expected numerous casualties as it was holiday time, but in fact no one was hurt, the aircraft I believe even slid right through a petrol station forecourt before ending up as shown wedged between the houses, a very lucky escape for everyone concerned.

If you are short of space, sometimes you have to cram it in!

Is that the one that came down in Tintagel some years ago?
