Must say the Westcountry TV reporter, Jon Andrews got it right but the BBC report was well wide of the mark, despite being briefed beforehand, he made several mistakes in the report and spoilt it.
Is she going back in the FAAM now?
Already been on show in Hall 2 for 2 weeks, the film showing it being rolled out of the hangar was filmed several weeks ago.
Just to let the forum members know, yes a book is being prepared to tell the story of the aircraft and its restoration by David Morris the museums Curator of Aircraft who led the restoration team. In the speech by the Chairman of the FAAM Trustees at the rollout, the link between the day and the story of ‘Hammy’ Gray was told to the assembled guests, but sadly not mentioned on any of the TV broadcasts.
Just to round off this thread with a thank you to the 266 people who visited Cobham Hall today, and to the 1,000+ who visited the main museum, no doubt some did both.Hope you all enjoyed your day, the next Cobham Hall open day will be from 1000 to 1600 on 16th September, the day before the Yeovilton airshow.
Found this on the FAAM site
October
(Date to be confirmed) AERO JUMBLE
We are considering re introducing the Fleet Air Arm Museum Aero Jumble. Last held in the 1990’s, the event attracted visitors and traders from all around the country and was attended by some 3,000 people. Traders in ‘militaria’, aircraft artefacts and all things aeronautical will be very welcome.
To register your interest in being a stallholder, please contact Bob Turner on 01935 842604.
Something to look forward to in the westcountry for once!
Sorry folks that should have been removed from the web site, only had one expression of interest in several months, so am going to try again in 2006, will continue with the autumn model show on October 22nd instead
Cool – I’ll be there on Sunday.
Hope you have a good visit, I am from Helston myself, sorry to hear you work in Camborne 🙂
Where else can you see 30-40 Historic ‘Warbirds’ fly in formation together at the same time….Ive been going for 9 years and every time it puts a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat.
Can’t explain why but all the history, not only the aeroplanes but the pilots, crew and the stories of bravery and valour which its like we will never see again.
Bring it on!!!
Maybe the most in the air together in Europe, but go to the US and thats small fry, saw 100 together at Wings over Houston in 2001, everything from L5’s to Fifi.
Four Naval Museums
What four naval museums? I can only think of two, the Fleet Air Arm Museum and HMS Belfast
The four naval museums are, The Royal Naval Museum, The Royal Naval Submarine Museum, The Royal Marines Museum and the Fleet Air Arm Museum, HMS Belfast is part of the Imperial War Museum as is Duxford and the Cabinet War Rooms.
The four Naval Museums have also a themed area in the park, one of the exhibits is Firefly Z2033.
They never made it to Eaglescott according to information current this lunchtime.
Some of the crews were saying that they had to dodge the weather on the way to Yeovil, at least one made a stop at Compton Abbas before arriving at Yeovil, about 100 made it to the FAAM for dinner in the end.
Not sure of how many aircraft have made it to Yeovil but about 60 of the members are tonight at the FAAM having a meal under Concorde, should have been 125
Re AWM – as I said earlier try

Whats left of the OscarCould be the largest collection of such paint schemes?
Regards
John P
Sorry John, there are a lot of aircraft at Silver Hill in the original schemes, mostly WWII types from Germany and Japan plus several US types, certainly more than at AWM, I would guess that they have the largest collection of original schemes, unless someone knows ———— 🙂
I think they have a P-38 in original paint in the Udvar Hazy Center. I may be wrong on that – I need to get off my arse and get down to Dulles, I think…
Looked like the original paint when I saw it last month, plus as mentioned all the Axis aircraft at Silver Hill, I know its not as old as most mentioned here but the Phantom at Yeovilton is also in its original scheme
Just back from USAFM and the 3 NA&SM facilities and can confirm that all are full of amazing aircraft, Hazy is certainly one not to miss.
I hope the wind drops a bit for them. I also hope the Moths can find some grass, otherwise it could get tres sporty!
The aircraft giving the flights are operating off the grass light aircraft strip which runs alongside 09/27 at the western end of the airfield, the static park is on Y dispersal behind the museum, sadly the forecast does not look good.
