The Air Britain series on serials is restricted to RAF aircraft, but they did publish a tome by Ray Sturtivant and Mick Burrow called Fleet Air Arm Aircraft 1939-45 which gives as full a history as possible for each aircraft. It does not specifically identify the various means used for disposal. Otherwise this is definitely the one you want, but it is long out of print and will be expensive if you find one. There was talk about a revised edition but this has not been mentioned following the death of Ray Sturtivant.
The book you are looking for is,
Fleet Air Arm Aircraft 1939 to 1945 by Ray Sturtivant and Mick Burrow, as mentioned an Air Britian publication, ISBN 0 85130 232 7
No doubt copies can be found on auction sites.

Shame no more mk1 SHARS exist as they look better than the FA2, but the black two seater is nice.
I wonder what their plans are for the phantom as they already have one of the prototype K’s on the carrier deck?
Thanks for the pic.

Just to clear up any confusion with the stored aircraft on the old Harrier tie down behind the museum, the 2 Sea Harrier F/A2’s and the Phantom are owned by the MOD and at some point someone will decide their fate, the Harrier T8 as of the week before this years Air Day is now part of the FAAM collection and once an issue with the nose oleo has been sorted will be towed across to Cobham Hall.
Last noted in use with QinetiQ at Boscombe Down
Never did understand why it was there and by all accounts it was a death trap when it flew with Lesure Sport, I seem to remember that they grounded it.
It was bought for an exhibition on the RNAS in WWI as an example of the German equipment in use at that time, once the exhibition was removed it was stored in Cobham Hall. After a number of years in store it was decided that it would not be needed in the future and was sold last year, it left Cobham Hall in September 2012.
Reading in FlyPast – the Albatros replica at Yeovilton has headed west to join Jerry Yagen’s collection. Are the FAAM getting anything in exchange or is it a sale?
It was a straight sale not an exchange for anything
Again sourced through a broker but you could try Ecclesiastical Insurance as they provide this type of cover for our museum.
Have you contacted the Archive Dept at the Fleet Air Arm Museum – 01935 840565
Any idea what happened to the other old Harriers which were at Cottesmore such as the GR1 and a couple of FA2s?
Both F/A2’s are at Yeovilton
I would think Seaking93 is refering to the other (complete) Sea Harrier, XZ499?
Correct, XZ499 was the one I was referring to
I think the comment about the Admiral’s Barge refers to the Sea Harrier
OK, same answer applies, FAAM,s Sea Harrier also has a combat kill
Seems ridiculous the FAAM didnt get the Admirals barge. Or with so few hours on the air frame it would have had potential as a trials a/c?
FAAM already have one Phantom thanks and the reserve store is filling up fast as can be seen on the next open day, 15th August, check the FAAM website for details http://www.fleetairarm.com
Re GSE for a Phantom move, don’t forget JARTS moved a Phantom from Leuchars to VL recently, they seemed to have all the correct frames when they put it together outside my window that day.
FAAM did manage to aquire some items but not the medals and log books sadly
They went for a hammer price of £27,000.
Thanks for the information, as it happens I met someone today who also bid, but could not beat that figure. I will be interesting to see who has actually bought them.
The airframe arrived at VL late this afternoon and is currently parked on the old Harrier tie down still to be unloaded.
