Wow, you’re fast Sandy! I’ve only gotten thus far, but then again, I had to trace your drawing by hand. Thanks so much. This has made life so much easier.

Hey Sandy, would you mind if I used this drawing of yours to trace my own “fleshed out” blank template? This looks very accurate.

Well, I’m not an Arabic speaker, but here is what I know:
(Arabic gets written/read from right to left so that is the order I’m going to follow)

الخطوط = “Khatoot”, plural of Khat, meaning Line
الجوية = “Joeweaa”, translated as Air
العربية = “Arabeaa”, Arabic for Arabian 🙂
المتحدة = “Mut-tahida”, meaning United (used a lot when referring to UAE, USA, UK…)
للطيران = “Tayraan”, roughly translates into Flight

    and now you know… 😉

Where are you getting that one from?

This is what the airline say about their logo:

    THAI’s distinctive livery…

I’ve only recently read the “official” explanation on the Thai logo (as in two weeks ago). At the age of 8, I remember standing outside the Royal palace in Bankok and listening with fascination to the guide explaining how the traditional Thai design gets reflected in everything “Thai” -even the airline logo, which symbolizes a dancers head-gear or an orchid. Well, it looked less like an orchid to me and more like a tilted head-gear with a head stuck inside (ala a smiley)

So, in effect, LBARULES is correct. Me and my erstwhile Thai guide came up with that one 🙂

How did you get arabic writing?

The writing was probably given to Sandy by the airline, after which he stylized it.

    Useless Trivia:
The phrase “United Arab Airlines” can be translated a couple of ways into Arabic. One is:

الخطوط الجوية العربية المتحدة, which literally translate the words “air” and “lines” (as in wind, and margins…)

Another way, as you see in the pictures, is following Egypt Air’s (and to some extent, Gulf Air’s) example of using the word للطيران, roughly meaning “flight”.

Is the tail design supposed to represent a type of bird or other animal?

I thought the tail design was actually a stylized UAA?!

Will $5000 be enough for you? If so you might want to try this thread for a new job.

I’ve read the note and seeing the common grammatical mistakes, it makes me wonder how professional (and thereby sincere) this person making the offer is…

Looks like a logojet livery for a magazine.

Great job Sandy! As for the Arabic writing, Once you have the basic script, you can calligraphic-ise it quite a number of ways.

Good to see a fellow designer published.

Thanks for the candidness, Steve. I’ve pretty much figured out that yours and my tastes when it comes to liveries are worlds apart.

Hey, but thanks for the consistency in feedback ever since I started here 🙂

Most of all, I wonder what kind of a conscience does one have to utter something like “a head, one bottom and a torso cannot possibly fly on its own” to someone with such a condition. Even if in extreme duress I was made to say something this horrid to another person, my own words would haunt my thoughts for the rest of my life…
