” …It is due to open to the public at the RAF Museum at the former Hendon Aerodrome either later this year or early in 2019…..”, cynically I wonder if it will ever be open to the public or they will have the staff to man it, considering the amount of recent exhibit closures.

    Sheesh….

Spent 4 hours there today, after travelling 200 miles, to find the Spitfire experience closed, along with ALL the sims. Absolutely dreadful papier-mache animals littered throughout as “comparisons”, making already difficult photography absolutely futile. It’s still not finished, with building work and associated detritus spoiling the ambience. F35 was found, nicely camouflaged against a grey roof – nearly missed the plastic beast. £5.00 for a can of fizzy orange and a pastry. Only 1 cafe open and the shop was being massively restocked. Hung around in case they changed their minds about opening the Spitfire Experience, but no – even though it was being advertised on the screens along with the non-existent 4D rides. Spoke to a couple of staff, but got the distinct impression that they really couldn’t have cared less. Iconic aircraft are missing, at Cosford (much better place) or in storage. Finally (phew) looking at the simply dreadfully positioned plastic Hurricane at the gate from mid-car park, the wings took on the look of being anhedral. Must be the heatwave. There are many good points, however, but if they are going to close the Spitty experience, they should say so on the website, which like the whole of the physical site, could do with a bit more work and panache. I guess I better expect the flames now, but these are my feelings from today.

    Big shame.

Had many memorable flights from 13/31 (as it was before the numbering was re-aligned). Viscounts, BAC1-11s, Comet 4s, 12 AEF Chipmunks, Cessnas 150 and 172 EFC, Bandeirantes, PA 350 Chieftains, Twin Otter, Boeing 737-200QCs, F27s, Sikorsky S58ET, BV234 Chinook, SD330, Rockwell 690B and dH Herons. The rest were all from the “new” runway…..

“Turnhouse no more”……should be included now in the old Proclaimers song, along with Methil, Linwood, Lochaber etc..etc.. ad infinitum.

I converted all of my VHS tapes onto DVD over many years, and have subsequently completed the digitising of them all into .mkv format (free programme from MakeMkv.com/download – use the Beta version, it’s been around for years and is stable) and store them on a large external hard drive and also in the cloud. Easy to catalogue and watch – and indeed upload into YouTube/Vimeo if someone has an interest. Once you get the hang of it, it’s very easy to do. This is a good way of preserving all these wonderful films/programmes/video’s for posterity – without the need for physical space! John

Further research indicates that on the date stamped, R&S were only repairing Spitfires and Defiants. It’s very possible that this was “withdrawn” and used later in Mosquito/Lancaster, but the 1940 date is the smoking gun. Flashing any light at it doesn’t work – it doesn’t glow….

    Just thought you’d be interested!

I’ve a complete instrument panel, pilot and co-pilot, engine stack, combing instruments and overheads – looking for a donor cockpit to put it in – or indeed would consider selling to a worthier cause…..

    It’s all black series 700….

    PM me if interested J
