How can we talk about price when the engine remains a question mark, the radar price is a big question, the exact avionics package etc are also unknown? Ifyou can provide figures for the above, then and only then can we discuss until then 15M looks to be quite an impossible price for a fighter aircraft with today’s prices.
What a dumb thread, neither the IN or the PLAN can even compete with the USN, give these two countries 30 years and things may at least become a bit more even.
I doubt that a few marines could hold India proper, judging from Iraq it would be impossble for the USN or even the US Army to hold on to India proper, however the USN could sink the IN in a matter of days, the subs could proove to be a nuisance though.
Of course at the same time as the US going against the wrong enemy another country would still be training and helping terrorists to fight in the name of God but such countries do not tend to be punished, they tend to get US tax payer’s money in the for of aide.
i’d like to know wether the IAF is actually taking the LCA seriously?, first of all i dont understand the hype about this aircraft, if the IAF were so comitted to buying this aircraft why have they launched a bid for 120+ 4th generation aircraft from the international market?
Simply because India is a fast growing economy and can thus afford to buy a lot of new fighters to increase its force levels and to MAINTAIN CURRENT FORCE LEVELS. We also pay for it with our own money.
PV2 is apparently still getting things put into it last i heard a couple of months ago, I have not heard of any more updates since?
I think that to make the scenario more plausable we should put some budget constraints here, say a USD 2.1B air force budget per year with 705 of that going to maintainance and ground crew pay etc, you get the point.
I think that works out to 3.8B US Dollars defence budget.
Che is known to make the most intelligent comments around here, let it be. 🙂
Do they retire some of their older airframe F-16s or do they upgrade them as well, any thoughts? How much life is there left in the F-16As?
Yet another moronic article from Pandit. Pakistan is to the west and China is to the north, hence the AD network is concentrated in these sectors, how can you get to central India without the two potential threats passing through the North or West? Nice one Pandit.
Also the threat from the South? Sri Lanka? The probability of war with the USN is NIL and the Chinese Navy will have to get passed Nicobar islands anyway… Sometimes I wonder about Pandit, does he make a living finding non existing problems, first his Arjun BS now this…
Are they upgrading the Delhis? or is the Admiral talking about work at MDL starting for the Bangalore class ships?
The Oacle should know that this is just negotiation, both India and Russia know that they need each other and they will sign the deal in the end, don’t worry India is not about to loose Russia as an ally as certain forums would warn. :0
sorry Oracle ji
Lastly, for the people who wish to know the obvous diff btw GNP and GDP, GNP is simply GDP+Net Transfer Payments, if one actually thinks that there is a big difference btw the two, I wish them good luck in their elementary school economics exam. 🙂
MODS?
Noone is saying that France will not sell to Pakistan, there is howeverrealistic observation of Pakistani finances, we had the same discussion last month, Pakistan still has to honour IMF financial reform demands which are still in place as precondition to get off the “bankrupt list” of states, remember two years ago anyone?
Hence it is more practical for Pakistan to buy either from China due to nice payment facilities and cheap prices or the USA due to a nice spread in payment facilities and US AIDE all of which is not disclosed to the public.
Last I checked Pakistan was buying the F-16 partly because of payment facilities and the obvious US AIDE package which France cannot offer to Pakistan, but perhaps when we were all sleeping last night Pakistan’s GDP skyrocketed to the infinity.

AVM’s statement reflected individual thinking and not collective PAF decision. In the next paragraph AVM was also quoted as saying ‘we would always consider western aircraft for the pure reason that those technolgies are mature’. PAF may have simply made is choice due to the facts that an active BVR is PAF’s current top priority (PAF needed it yesterday) and that there were some anomalies with Grifo S7 which need some time for correction and integration of chinese or other weapons with western systems would require even more time.
Vias, I have absolutely no problem with what you say, it is rather more logical and rational
