When it comes to India, Janes is more than garbage, they are pathetic. Maybe the rahul Bedi syndrome is rubbing off on them.
Those unnamed russian officials do love to bs sometimes, India buying Patriot and Orions does not equal to India not buying Russian, on the contrary the russians will be quick to realize that India wil be a customer for at least the next 2 decades. As far as intellectual property rights, the russians have a right to demand it and India has the need to give it.
Have you genouses looked at the PN budget lately? Do yougeniouses think that Pakistan got TOT for the Agosta for no reason? http://www.pkdef.info is where such speculation and jokes should be kept lads.
Can the K carry the Bhramos and take off from the Gorshkov though?
There was talk a few months ago of retrofitting a more powerful engine on the E2C so that it could operate from a stobar carrier. Also India needs more than 6 Phalcons, it needs smaller AEW systems because the border and seashore is huge. They need to have at least one AEW in the Andamans itself together with one squad of su-30s etc
I wonder who is making these analyses?
A major modernization will take place soon, the Pakistan mention is only done on purpose for both political and public consumption, the commes wont veto a move to increase spending if Pakistan is at the same alledged level. 🙂
The LCA cockpit will have a few changes but the basic layout will remain on initial batches from what i read a year ago though, u will have to ask Harry. The main enemy is not Pakistan, the main enemy is Pakistan and China, the IAF has a factored possibility that both the PAF and PLAAF will play some agressive tricks if war were to break out, wherein the PLAAF could get close enough to the border wherein some IAF squadrons would have to remain in the area.
34 more C/Ds for the PAF (according to Flight) may be just what the boys at Fort Worth need right now….
That would only keep their jobs for another year, this was a long time comming, in such volatile industries, workers should plan ahead and when they have jobs, they should be busy aquiring more sophisticated skills.
The MiG-29 is a great design but its a bit on the old side compared to the Rafale and Eurofighter, sure the M and M2 versions have a new and better airframe but the basic design remains. Also the IAF was not happy with the original MiG-29s especially in the early 90s when engine problems grounded many a plane. The MiG-29M2 or similar version will be a great fighter but will not be able to compete against 5th gen fighters, the IAF is buying a fighter for the 21st century, at least the Rafale and EF-2000 have some newer tech while even they will fall short in my view. This is why its better to invest in the PAK-FA now, a limited capability version can be made ready by 2016.
Didn’t we pay 1.8B for 40 SU-30MKIs in the mid nineties?
That would be around 5.4B USD for 120 of them, the MiG-29M variant should be around 4-5B USD, not more.
How about forgetting about the whole damn thing, wait for the LCA which will come in 08, build more production lines and take all that mney saved and together with Russia build the damn PAK-FA, a fighter that will be able to compete well through the next 2 decades.
visited reunion Island last year from Mauritius, as far as I know the French do not base their carriers from there, it may make some port visits…
Someone should try to find out if this is indeed the case bring it on, I for one am skeptical about the 2 engine requirement change, we should ask the French and the Europeans.
One thing is for sure though, the middlemen who get the 1% cut will be very rich, this expectation will lead to many a middleman to compete and do all sorts of funny stuff in South Block which could delay purchases due to the auditor.
Is it confirmed that the IAF is looking for a twin engined fighter, I still have my doubts, is there an official statement on the matter? I never saw anything in the INdian press and those fighters are wayyy too expensive minus the MiG.
