No disrespect, and I know I am gonna get stoned for this, but should India not concentrate on making sure the LCA enters service before committing resources to another aircraft porject?

The MCA/PAK FA are part of the 5th gen project not 4th gen project, hence there will be no resource allocation squeeze since they are two different projects. IN any event the LCA testing phase is progressing nicely now with weapons testing commencing soon, hence the designers can now concentrate on a new bird if MCA is not equal to PAK FA that is. The LCA testing is being handled by other departments now, the pople who draw and conceptualize airframe design have finished their job and will play a secondary role in the lca testing aka tweaks.

A better question would have been kaveri which is supposed to power the MCA but has yet to be tested on the LCA itself.

Noone eve knows if the PAk-fa and the mca will end up being the same thing for a certainty, the old MCA pic that BR has is but an old sketch, the final MCA design could or could not look like it.

Its pretty obvious isn’t it, for decades it was believed that INdian pilots did not have a qualitative edge against its enemys and followed the Soviet system of GCI controlled intercepts, now we know that its just not as simple as that. U can send that to Chuck Yeger. 🙂

    >>>one must not be an Indian to oppose the sale of F-16s – or any other kind of advanced military technology – to Pakistan. A country that is one of the main training bases for international terrorism, and a country which created the Taliban, should not be getting any such stuff just because it’s pretending to be a “great US ally” since 9/11, especially as it “joined” the US-lead anti-terror alliance only on a direct threat of an US invasion.

Us asked Pakistan to form a resistance againt Sovjet invasion. They left after the Russians were defeated. Compared to many other countries where the US fought communism, Afghanistan is not much different. About Terrorism and Pakistan.. Why not add that India being the largest democracy is having troubles stopping the burning of moslims by hindus in Gujrat? You guys tend to simplify everything by looking negative towards Pakistan and positive arrogant to the Indian. The reality is much different. Kashmir is occupied and human rights are violated. So let us stop moving to non aviation.

1- Go and address Tom Cooper, its his post lol, enough with the arrogant Indian bs
    2) Gujurat, u mean the place where there was violence a few years ago and where the ppl who committed crimes ARE FACING TRIAL? How about the hindus who were burnt? good thing the Supreme court in India will put both sides to trial.
3)- Kashmir occupied? it was signed to India by the King of the state and both sides are supposed to respect this as per a previous agreement for any state. However the legalities are in dispute, to conclude is but BS bias.
4- The reality is for all to see, a simple bbcnews.com would suffice. 🙂

How pathetic, bashing India at every opportunity even though Tom Cooper is not Indian?

The DRDO is not run properly as a modern day organization, it is run like a typial Govt run Indian enterprise, aka, it is not efficient, reform is surely something they should address but the article is too busy talking about everything being a failure when that is not the case, the arjun is being inducted and it does have decent terrain capability as it makes up for it in certain areas where the t-90 cannot go. The LCA flight regime is acelerating and the weapons testing will begin late this year or early next year, the article is too quick to judge on that point, only the Kaveri appears to be challenging and this should be expected.

There are two main problems here
The DRDO is wayy to ambitious about “indegenization”, it takes on too many projects!
The Indian media expects that all R and D projects suceed without any setback. a normal process in the testing of things is that certian things go wrong and u learn from them.

    “Is Arjun induction-ready?
Yes. The tanks are being made ready for operational induction. Certain residual mandatory quality checks are being carried out by the DRDO and the army now.

They say Arjun can’t be deployed in areas like Suratgarh and Hanumangarh, that the bridges can’t bear its weight.
The Arjuns are designed as per tactical requirements of the army. These tanks have been fully ‘exploited’ during the user’s evaluation in the subject terrain extensively, even in several “declared not-tankable areas” such as the Gurdaspur areas”

it appears that the Arjun is ready and being inducted as mentioned a hundred times before and that the too big for terrain issue has been delt with, true though the arjun wont be able to pass over ertain older bridges in India due to its weight but will make up for it in other areas as mentioned above.
As for the Kaveri, daa, it is technologically the hardest thing to master and is at least 3 years away from testing on the LCA.

As far as the LCA going slow, it did for the first two years for sure but now the test frequeny has increased exponentially, one look at the ADA website will show u that last week, there was a flight every day and this trend has been set for a while now.

As far as the Trishul and Akash, it is not completely wrong to argue that they have failed to deliver, the drdo that is.

Surely the DRDO takes on too many ambitious projects in my opinion as well, as far as private industry, the problem is that we need to wait a bit longer for this to happen, rememebr INdia liberalized in 91 and private companies are only now starting to make a name for themselves. Defence spending on r and d costs a lot of money and there is inadequate Govt support for suh an endevour, remember the left says no privatizing profit making PSUs and even the ones that are in the red, try to revive them first. 🙂

Pretty old article. After that the LCA and its engine faced a bit more critic. With Indian participating in PAKFA and maybe buying 125 foreign planes… What is the chance that these plans of MCA go on? Thanks.

A link has been provided about the Kaveri problems, see above mention.

Noone really knows if the MCA is going ahead or if the MCA and the PAK-fa are one in the same orwhatever else.

Interesting info about the MCA and I note the mention of fuel tanks above the wing for the LCA option, they better make sure the MA has at least4-6 internal hardpoints or else some heads better roll.

While I do not doubt that the lca is good, how do pilots rate it better than the Mirage 2000, in what sense?

They must be talking about handling characteristics done on the lca SO FAR and not lca better than 2000 yet.

I do not get the fixation with F-16s of the PAF in those news articles, they only have the vanilla A version, India will face a much more advanced version of the F-16 and train. Maybe somewhat useful experienence when it comes to dogfighting perhaps.

Why don’t the French just offer the rafale, they will loose out if the ef-200 is subject to compete vs the Mirage2000-v either way it seem like prices will drop due to competition. 🙂

I do not believe that each Eurofighter cost only 33M each, no way, only 3M higher than a Mirage, at that price a Eurofighter is cheaper than the su-30 even minus all gizmos , weaponms, infrastructure setup etc. ??????
