Surely the LCA was ment to replace the Mig-23s and MiG-21Fs and be put into the nuclear strike role. π
For the usual suspects with their ALH not success due to low altitude bs

Many nations keen to buy ALH
(Rediff, 30 March 2002)
“Later, Air Chief Marshal S Krishnaswamy said that the Indian Air Force would be placing orders with HAL for the weapon-graded ALHs for induction in its squadrons in the near future. “We would be going from ALH to Light Attack Helicopter subsequently for reconnaissance missions. While the current ALHs will be used for utility services, including surveillance, rescue, relief, and evacuation operations,” Air Chief Marshal Krishnaswamy stated. The skid-versions of the ALH for the IAF are fitted with skis, troop seats, stretchers, cargo hook, rescue hoist, slithering system, and armour protection. During its field trails and rigorous tests, the ALH was flown from Bangalore to Leh and back, covering a distance of 5,400 km without a snag. It was also tested in the Himalayan region of Kashmir at a height of 10,500 feet above sea level, and landed on the highest battlefield in the world under -16ΒΊ centigrade. Similar trials and tests were carried for its airworthiness in high temperatures and low altitudes at Jodhpur in Rajasthan.”
I don’t think that the Harrier is a bad idea on the Gorshkov and the ADS as long as they havebvr, it could be used as an emergency intercept ac while the more capable MiG-29Ks are readied for launch.
Indian1973
I am not saying that carriers will become useless but rather smaller carriers will be fine since UCAVs will be smaller in comparison and a carrier will be able to handle more of them, hence a 35000tn carrier could hold more than 40 UCAVS, enough for the IN
The Gorshkov should operate till 2030, the IN will try to crunch all the juice out of the baby, but I wonder if such huge carriers will be needed past 2030 Indian, the age of the UCAV is comming.
Funding for nuclear detterants are sketchy at best, money seems to come from nowhere, it is impossible for me or anyone else to tell you how much it is or isn’t, well as per Rahul Bedi, the deal is already a go. π
Certain memebrs love to post Rahul bedi articles, I figure, why not, he is a great expert.
Now Arthur, you believe what Indian1973 says for one thing, you better believe him when he says other things, since he must obviously have inside info and all, its goingto be fun fun fun on AFM. π
osh Arthur, give it a rest, I am obviously only speculating daaaa, we do not know, relax, I never claimed any biblical truths around here. And yes Indian1973, I do not really know him but I am sure that he would have such great inside info, being an AFM enthousiast and all. π
The LCA copleted 255 flights this past friday, there were about 4-5 flights this week.

HAL wins 84mn contract with Airbus.
I don’t think the M2K is officially available with the RBE-2, at least not according to Thales. The picture also shown here of a Mirage with an RBE-2 nose is simply a radar testbed from the CEV (the French test establishment), not an official aircraft.
You would be surprised how far money can make things available these days. The Mirages will form part of the nuclear deterrant, the IAF will not get anything, they will get the best they can, money can be pooled from the defence budget and nuclear budget.
why are we discussing Dhruv in Pakistan aviation thread!
heads up;
Whatever plans IDF had for acquiring Dhruv was shot down by the US congress at the request of US companies. Plus Israeli govt couldnt approve it either since Israel was going to buy these with US aid money. Trust me on this, this sale is not going to happen.
I am almost sure that it will since its part of the phalcon contract that Israel will have to buy something Indian to a certain amount, IAI is also marketing the Dhruv, please check before posting, if you are so sure, I am willing to place bets. π
any takers?
How many Harriers operate on the Viraat at present?
When are the upgrades planned and are they being implemented?
I dont think that it is such a bad idea to buy 15020 of those Rn Hariers and put a few of them on the Gorshkov, if we can wrk out the maintainance problem of two types on a small carrier, I think we can, the Harriers won’t be bad as a fast reaction aircraft to an immediate threat, especially considering the fact that no AEW platforms will be present to detect targets at very long ranges. The Ka-31s not enough in my opinion.
Steel cutting is confirmed to have started last year, I do not know about the NLCA and catbar, I do not trust one engined planes in carrier ops, that is my opinion.
Anyoe want to comment on the potential for UAVs serving as mini AEWs forming a ring around the carrier?
Advantages and limitations are welcome π
Himanshu, The druv was selected to replave those hot and high choppers. In the end it did not meet those requirements. The Indian forces found it not goof enough. It is same like the Arjun. Same with LCA. Same with many other projects. The made the Druv so now they are trying to sell it with help of Israel. Personal I think it has a great cockpit and it is a nice chopper. But I do not ask a lot.
And the ALH was not specifically designed for high alt lol, it was ment to be all purpose and the reason why it cant go to high alt yet is ebcause of the downgraded engine due to nuke sanctions which is soon going to be upgraded anyway. Now enough with India, as much as we are flattered, this is the Pakistani news section. π
MIrage Rose, not FC-1
