200MKIs, 220 LCAs, 125M2k-5s + 45M2Ks upgraded, 60-70 MiG-29 upgraded, refuellers, Phalcons in the next 10-14 yrs, I doubt that Indian dominance will end as some paf fans would love, however it definitely makes for a more interesting scenario since at least now the PAF can defend itself, it wont be a bvr turkey shoot for the IAF.
Reliable Pakistnai sources tend to be mentioned a lot, even two yrs ago for the immenent F-16 deals!, numbers were also given but let us assume Pakistan does get all this, India will simply buy Mirages the next day to restore the imbalance yet again and the same story will continue. I hope that this deal goes through, there is nothing more than Pakistan buying “state of the art fighters” that will make India break the bank and mind you Indian reserves are much much much higher than that of Pakistan, so not really, the neighbourhood will still be the same sadly enough, let us hope that the Griphen ends up in friendly exercises with the IAF one day rather than against it.
Okay here goes nothing
If Pakistan does in deed buy the Griphens as stated by this article, we should let them post as many threads as they wish without complaint, you see we have read so much of the same type of news before and nothing happened, hence I am not convinced and if it does happen it will be the buggest surprise in arms sales history, but if does not happen will all those PAF fans stop posting rumour threads forever and then we can move on in life?
And let us not forget the rumours of a few months ago where the PAF was about to get Belgian F-16s and the US was supposed to have given the green light, now I hear that its Bulgaria that will actually put pen on paper.
Hmm aren’t those the same F-16s that Pakistan was rumoured to be about to lease a few months ago?
FAS used to be a great place for info but they have quite a lot of inaccuracies such as the one mentioned above and there is a lack of the webmaster there to update his site!
in other news
well done to Croatia for the tie vs France and good luck to the Italians without Totti
PAF top amongst the Muslim world?
Not unless the UAE, Saudi, Turkey, Egypt, Algeria with its soon to be SMTs etc do not count as Muslim countries!
I do not think that anyone denies that PAF pilots did a good job in past wars, problem was that it did not end up in winning the war and today good or bad, they just do not have the aircraft to face the IAF and are reduced into buying second hand Mirages, not even M2Ks, from Lybia.
Shish I just read the article, not only is it poor journalism but I seem to be confused as to how the IAF suddenly has MiG-31s? lol this is the article that has created this long thread, if past record holds true, how many people want to bet that the general comes back with export deals rather than the Griphen?
Oh my God what a load of garbage, anyone who believes that the PAF defeated the Soviet airforce should have themselves checked. The Soviet airforce had strict orders no to engage the PAF, this is documented extensively on many a book, on ACIG etc, so please quit it.
In any event the quality of PAF pilots really becomes irrelevant today doesn’t it, not much they can do vs MKIs, M@ks etc, thank God for the FC-1 which will at least stand a chance, in any event tis not good to look at the past anymore, in the past wars both the IAF and the PAF had the same equipment, well almost, today the story has changes, with the IAF having exercises with the best western airforces such as the French and the Americans etc and gets praise after praise, one wonders how well the PAF will stack up even pilot wise, the time of the Chuch Yeger has long gone my friends, time to move on to the 21st century, I was not planning to post on this thread but I laughed myself off when I read the PAF defeating the Soviet airforce, my God!
Isn’t this sort of ship a bit too small to go up vs the Iranians who could throw a volley of Russian anti ship missiles at it, how many helicoptors or JSFs could go vs a seizable Iranian presence, I see it as more of a waste of money, better buy more subs and intergrate cruise missiles to it to destroy so called Iranian nuclear installations.
What a good idea, nothing better than to learn and absorb absorb and absorb.
Hmm to all of my Indian friends out here, the thread title is the PAF buying second hand Lybian Mirages, isn’t that enough to see the state of the PAF and how much they can really afford. I think that we should wish them good luck with such planes, we have heard of the PAF getting everything but as of yet, only the FC-1, MiG-21 clones and second hand Mirages have been bought, so no point in debating here, let them be. I believe that I read once that the Lybian Mirages have about btw 1/2 to 1/4 of their airframe life left in them, let us with the PAF good luck.
