I consider the J-8IIM to be a little high maintenance for a low end export market. I would think that the other companies, like CAC, are better off with their KISS solutions than a large twin turbojet engined plane with a voracious appetite for gas.
Several years ago, Iranian Air Force placed an order of J-8II to Chinese aero industry. The J-8IIs were not the exported version F-8IIM, Iranian wanted to buy PLAF’s internal used version(maybe J-8H). The Chinese aero industry/SAC was very happy, however the Chinese military authorities banned the deal.
The F-8IIM is the one with the Russian Zhuk. Can’t understand why the Iranians would not want it considering their relationship with the Russians. The internal J-8II version is the one probably with the KLJ-1 radar. Hard to say if that radar is better than the Zhuk, and the armament support is definitely more limited. Is the Iranian interest based on looking for a platform that they could use for their C-802s and other missiles with a Chinese origin like C-701?
Nonetheless, the last export version, the J-8IIM shown in air expos, now uses the KLJ-1 radar. I think the radar has now been allowed for export, since the latest internal versions have gone further on with the radar development.

Should be more than good enough, with AESA and stuff. Not that they will use the APG-79. I think the Japanese will hatch their own again, and integrate their own AAMs and AshMs to it, like AAM-4 and ASM-2.
Was there someone who wanted to buy FBC-1s (Argentina or Iran) but the idea was dropped because of political reasons.
This chinese manufacturer website contains an image of the J-10, this particular company works on radars amongst other things. Could this represent a slow officialisation of the J-10 project?

The uninformed consensus of those who have yet to be introduced to foreign military aircraft is that, compared to US equipment, Soviet or Chinese aircraft would be more egg-crate in nature than bullet-proof. Wrong. Or in the case of the Chinese CJ-6A, “wong”. The Chinese have been making this aircraft from the same basic blueprint for almost 50 years. Instead of trying to evolve a space shuttle out of a two-seat trainer, they set about to redesign each part that broke so it would be disabused to do so as frequently. It would seem that after at least 15 years of this pencil and eraser engineering the probability they will have succeeded should be high. In as much as they have been at it for more than twice that long, high it is.
All these suggest two things:
– They design in such a way that any country peasant or idiot can fly them.
– They go through every aspect of a design, then redesign components so they are harder to break, or made idiot proof.

Instead of making logical explanation, they are trying hard & giving illogical assumptions on ws10. As highsea has said, they hasnt shown any signs of developing an advance jet engines. And repeated orders of AL-31 shows its long way away from such reality full stop
Which is nonsense actually. For instance, since the mid 90’s, China has been manufacturing small and intricate turbojets and turbofans for its antiship missiles, cruise missiles, UCAVs and drones. China also achieved a very high thrust from a small engine, with 7500-7800kg thrust on turbojets with a small diameter like the Kunlun I and II. Also, the AL-31, GE F110 and PW F100 are hardly considered advanced.

The MiG-15/17 can be considered for most intents one type. There are currently four basic varients available as follows: MiG-15 either Chinese or Polish manufactured. (single seat fighters). MiG-15UTI trainers, mainly Polish. MiG-17F either Chinese or Polish once again, and the JJ-5 trainer, a 2 seat MiG-17 manufactured only in China. Basic differences between the 15 and 17 are the wing, 10 degrees greater in sweep, much thinner and with a higher critical mach number in the 17 compared to the 15. The 17 fighter has an afterburning VK-1F engine with all of the others, including the JJ-7 MiG-17 trainer having the less powerfull VK-1 sans burner. All of these engines are really reverse engineered Rolls Royce Nene engines, the Brits having had the good grace to sell the Soviets engines at the beginning of the cold war. Having had experience with all 4 of these I observe that the nicest airplanes are the ones from China (!!). Don’t ask me why, but their stuff is of much better fit and finish than the European stuff. I know it is weard and does not fit in with most peoples pre-conceived ideas but it is true. (and my own personal MiG is a Polish Lim-5 which a MiG-17F fighter, so I have no axe to grind).

Any idea of the platforms intended for the GTE WS500 micro engine, revealed at Paris last?
It has a single stage fan, five stage HP compressor and an annular combustion chamber. It uses Blisks and is to have electronic control eventually. It develops a thrust of 500 daN and is claimed to be the first of its kind in China. The core will be used for 150 and 800 daN variants.
Possibly drones or cruise missiles.
PPl here just dont want to understand the difficulties involved in the process. As highsea says firstly, its impossible that any cfm56 core were unaccounted for[expect the two lost in 83]. While the comm airline engine are much diff from fighter jets.
And how many times do I have to tell you, the US military does not have the same opinion.

Other stories I heard—
It accelerates faster than F-104 Starfighter, which is a type used by the ROCAF previously.
It has a tighter turning circle than the F-5E, also another ROCAF type.
Tracking and engagement range of the GD-53 radar (yes its really called Golden Dragon, based on APG-67 though) is about 67km, with a maximum search range of 147km. Two targets are simultaneously engaged.
