you mention about the build quality, could you go into clarifications.
Tom of ACIG stated that in general, Russian aircrafts are bolted “simply” and that some natural factors (ie. wind, etc) can seep into the small cracks and gaps from the simpler build and eventually wear down the life time of the aircraft.. just wanted to see if you share this opinion.
You can tell a Chinese made J-11 from the Russian made Su-27SKs by the rust streaks on the rivets in the later, as well as various panel and painting irregularities.
But you can’t do that on the M2. The M2 uses its skin to seal the fuel tanks since it has to use more of its internal volume, even those just under the skin, to hold more fuel. That means tolerances have to be a lot more tight, with welding on the gaps.
Not everyone here has a Trumpeter kit so don’t keep pegging the question.
A question or rather an observation regarding the “balance beam” picture: The shadow of the wing seems to suggest that the sun is either directly overhead or slightly behind the photographer. If that’s so, why is the area of particular interest, the dorsal radar array, so overexposed as if the sun is pointing right into the camera lens?
And since I haven’t read any news about a massive explosion occuring near a Chinese airfield nor of photographers capturing the exact moments of detonation, I can only conclude that the image is PS’ed. Also, notice the artifacts left over from over contrasting and sharpening…
Any thoughts?
I doubt that is PS. Hui Tong would know it best if it is PS or not since he had a lot of xxperience screening such items for years before he would post it on his website. This is not to mention his familiarity with reliable posters i n the Chinese forums and their follow on comments. It looks to me it’s just sun glare off the balance beam as the beam is likely to be trapezoidal in cross section.
3)Right after the plane left the ground, was it likely one of the afterburner was switched off to save fuel? It is not a safe thing to do for a heavy subsonic plane to have one engine dropping power during takeoff but the Su27/30 is a fighter with lots of reserve power. :diablo:
Actually I was thinking that you probably don’t need both afterburners just to take off. You probably only need to light one, and save on fuel.
I think this photo is taken few yrs ago but that time they only show the Su-30MKK. Nobody knows a J-10 is actually beside it!
Everyone knew there was a J-10 in that event, as there was other pictures. One picture of the MKK had the J-10’s tail peeping on the side of the picture.

It was a silly idea to sell so much hardware and technology to the Chinese. In a few years they will be attacking us with our own equipment.
You seem to be pretty ignorant. Much of the stuff you see here are produced and designed by the Chinese themselves.
I wouldn’t read to much into the colouring, seems this is a pretty common occurence with the AL-31F:

The pics also show a plane colored like a prototype and not your regular operational Flanker. You can’t rule out these pics as a Russian prototype testing their own engine prototypes.
You could probably take those pics from one of Shanghai’s skyscrapers, or even from the Pearl TV Tower.
About “Independance Day”,I heard that the film’s producers approached the USAF who declined to be involved,hence the F/A18’s were used as the USAF refused the film makers permission to use F22’s.

its general believed that china’s military technology is a generation (roughly 20 yrs) behind the US… however, so far china has not been able to produce large aircraft… whether large transports such as a C-5, C-130, Il-76, or An-124… bombers like the b-52, b-1a/b, tu-22, tu-95, or tu-160… or civilian airliners such as 737, 747, A300, or tu-154…. these planes i mentioned r all over 20 yrs old… some much more than that… y is china unable to produce sth that both the US n russia / former soviet union could produce w/ technology from many decades ago?
i’d appreciate it if some1 can provide me w/ an answer
China could do it if they wanted to, just as they built super tankers. But unless there is a huge PLA order, or huge guaranteed orders from China’s airlin e companies, no Chinese company could afford to develop one, or afford to lose the money if no one buys the plane.

Pod for the wrong weapon. It’s a pod used with the Kh-31P, but the plane is armed with YJ-83s which also does not need a pod at all.
It is true that engines of F-6 had longer life, which is understandable regarding that F-6 is newer built aircraft, but caracteristics of both engines in combat are the same. The same thrust, air mass flow etc.
Aerodynamic caracteristics are also the same: lift coef., drag coef., moments about all axes etc.
Life of WP-6A is about 300 hours which is not so bad for the time. J-75 engine of F-105 had life of 225 hours.
Newer J-6 versions had the WP-6A engine which is nearly 40kn compared to the 32kn of the previous engine version. The J-6I which had this engine also had an increased wing area. So you’re saying the engines are only the same is not correct. The increased wing area and the more powerful engine was there to compensate for the increased weight of the Q-5 Fantan, and so in the process of standardization, the same improvements are applied to its J-6 siblings.
Russian fighters are built from the start to have excellent maneuverability.
That includes Mig-19 also. There is no any reason to believe that Chinese version is better in any category. Hydraulics and engines are the same.
The engines are buffed up in the later Chinese versions and had longer life (WP-6A), though still short.
