The document has been signed by general Falsaperna because the Lega/M5S government fell and the new one was engaged in the vote of confidence, therefore the minister was in charge only for current affairs and the new one did not yet have the confidence of the Senate but Guerini welcomed the agreement reached. The national armament director could never sign without the agreement of the new Minister moreover analysts agree that the Italian Air Force, industry and the same policy have chosen the Tempest team.
Signed, now italy is part of the Tempest team
The contract was divided into three tranches:
1. 300 Ca.313 and 100 Ca.311;
2. 300 Re.2000;
3. 50 engines for ships made by Isotta Fraschini and 1000 anti-aircraft machine guns;
After the German authorization from the Reichsluftfahrtministerium to sell the material to Great Britain two British pilots test the Re.2000, the Ca.311 and the Ca.313 in flight. At the end the representative of the Air Ministry is very satisfied of the Reggiane plane and announces that the RAF order could reach even the number of 1000. The signing of the contract was scheduled for April 6th at the British Embassy in Rome but in the night the Germans change their minds and deny the sale authorization, perhaps the same Hitler in person calls Mussolini, then Mussolini calls Count Caproni and requires him to cancel the contract.
The Re.2000 recovered from the sea seems in extremely bad conditions and could only be used as a source of parts or as a model to restore in future the wreck present at the Caproni Museum in Trento. This Re.2002 was a wreck recovered at the end of the war on an airfield, to restore it have been found an engine and a propeller, then it was rebuilt the left wing, the engine hood and many minor parts.
I read something about, but the period is that of the Abyssinian War, in 1935 when the war between Italy and Great Britain seemed possible, at that point some pilots sent to Mussolini a letter in which they said they were ready to the extreme sacrifice, launching themselves with a plane against the major ships of the Mediterranean Fleet.
The collection of the Regia Aeronautica in Italy included a Roland and a Fokker of the First World War, their fate is unknown, perhaps they were taken by the Germans, perhaps by the Allies, or destroyed by someone, however surely they are disappeared.

On the background you can see 4 of the Afghans IMAM Ro.37 in the final stages of construction in the Capodichino hangar. They have only the rudder with the Afghan colors, in the Alegi’s book “Il ritorno del Romeo” there is a possible reconstruction of the appearance of the aircrafts: roundels on the wings but not on the fuselage and rudder with the Afghan colors.
Judging by the open canopies, probably not.
In the attack of that day a crew was lost, if this is that particular aircraft the remains of the crew may have been destroyed by the sea or by the time or scattered by the current or englobed by concretions but it would remain a grave.
According to Tomislav over on the Hyperscale forum this aeroplane was assigned to 239 Squadriglia Regia Aeronautica and was lost on April 12th 1941 while attacking Royal Yugoslav seaplanes at Jadrovac. Here’s to a successful recovery and conservation. Lots to work with there !
and maybe it’s a grave.
Any updates of what happened since recovery.
Laurent
It should still be in freshwater, the structure is very corroded and I read that one of the ideas is to expose the wreck as it is, now the Museum is engaged in the restoration of the Reggiane 2002 that should be almost finished, after hopefully should start the work on one of the wrecks of the remaining Reggiane, the 2001 or the 2000.
I don’t know, surely they have to remove the salt, if they don’t use the solution developed for the Dornier, they will maintain the aircraft in fresh water for at least one year. In Italy there is still the fuselage of a Reggiane 2000 Catapultabile, with the wings and the elements of the plane recovered and with a good restoration should be obtained a complete aircraft.
In fresh water there is a reasonable chance of something being left, of course a lot depends on how hard they went in.
Lesina is a saltwater lake
