Certainly not the last RAF crewed flight as there’s a display and flypast at the Marham Families Day on the 27th…

Oooops. forgot the families day event at Marham.

Apologies for the inaccurate header folks.

Excellent pic of VM351 Air Britians – Anson File by Ray Sturtivant.

351 was one of 6 Annies flown from Bovingdon to mark the withdrawal of the type from RAF service on 28 June 1968.

    Hope this helps.

Just found this one out of my archives, taken around 88-9 shortly after arrival from Salmesbury.

Lesb has a couple of interesting pics on his canberra site. http://www.bywat.co.uk/

    Phil,

Built 1954. To 61sqn then transferred to 15 sqn. Converted to TT18 . transferred to AAE&E in April 1968.
Sept 68 to 15MU and finally ( as shown in your pics) with 7sqn based at St Mawgan.

Soc and sold to BAC on 10 Nov 1981 and to Salmesbury for storage.
Sold on to Flambards theme park Helston Cornwall for display. Sometime later the airframe was disposed of with the cockpit section later noted at Bruntingthorpe in 2002.

Lesb can no doubt fill in the rest of the history.

    David,

David, Such a crying shame that they have to end up shredded and carted of. One can only hope that thirty years down the line the remaining sections are still with us.

I know where you are coming from regarding the 707. future visitors to East Fortune will see a front end of a 707 and its significance will not be apparent.

Running around looking for some-one or some group to lay the blame on will not bring the aircraft back. I for one have no desire to apportion blame.

    Badger, DB

Given the simplistic nature of the kids question and the fact that not everyone knows the full story , what answer would you have given ?

Not so much wide of the mark, simply relaying what was passed on to me earlier this afternoon .

    Overhead earlier today at Cosford.
Little lad ( aged about 7):
Dad ? Why are they smashing up the aeroplanes?
    Dad:
Cos the people preserving our history don’t like them

Pretty much summed it up for me
Who cares who is ultimatley to blame. A sad loss for future generations.

Will not make it to legends this year, but can I pre-order two copies?

I am working with people closely connected with Roly’s EE/BAC days and I know they are all going to want copies as well .

Snapper, I reckon on going for the 1000. As Moggy said breaking even at around the 650 mark.

Roly was a well known and respected pilot both during and after the war and there are many folks out there who who inspired by him. There is sure to be a lot of interest up here in the North West.
As an aside Eric Bucklows ( also ex BAC Flight testing crew) book ‘Coronation wings’ ran to 2000 copies of which he has sold over 1000 to date.

Me posting red? shicks , guess thats why I’m stuck in the corner.

Seriously, I think its difficult to distinguish , maybe some of our more knowledgeable forumites could elaborate.

Albert should be back on board next week, so I think we can expect more informed debate.
