    Sad news.

Why not sink her, wait 500 years and have an amazing restoration undertaken as in the case of the Mary Rose.

If we cared as much about spending on preservation as we do spending on ‘modern’ architectural edifices, then maybe, just maybe we wouldn’t see these headlines so frequently.

They were all ex RAF airframes, refurbished by Flight Refuelling at Tarrant Rushton 1954/5.

Not long moved house and my listings of all meteors are in a box (somewhere). Hopefully during this weekends spell of unpacking the list will be found.

    187Sqn was reformed from No2 Ferry Unit 1953 . Dakota III/IV until 1957.

    79Sqn FR.9’s 1951-6

Interestingley the prototype VC10 Super ZD230 was scrapped at St Athan very recently.
Had the RAF Museum wanted to retain a VC10 that would have been the most likely candidate.
Equally I am sure an approach to Lockheed for a surplus C-130 for preservation rather than scrapping in the states might have produced a positive response.

    Wessex Porn! 😀 😎

sorry, calmed down now….Our ones at Shawbury were merely daubed in Red Paint, so don’t qualify for this thread 🙁

Maybe we should consider a red thread? Oh and a trainer yellow or even a pre paint shop thread. The list and indeed the opportunities to dig deep into the archives are endless. What say it guys?

One more this one from Midland Air Museum late 80s.

Nice Harvard Moondance, Last time I saw her she was down at Shoreham back in 96.

Thanks for the RAF Pics Cranswick, superb stuff keep em coming.

2 from Italy and a couple of very faded dayglo examples from the late 80s.

Little Rissington 1963 or 4 Station open day

Living just a few miles east it was also my ‘local’, but good to get on the station and walk around the aircraft that held my gaze skyward when I should have been focussing on school work.

Chipmunks and JP 3’s were the most memorable and still are amongst my all time favourites.

Webpilot: The station has been identified from others in the series by our very own Albert as RAF Leeming and the time frame is June 1969.

Cranswick : The T4 beyond your pic of the TT20 is WJ874 ( once again many thanks Albert). Great pics of Englands finest ‘paraffin burners’.

Must dig out a few more tonight, I will treble check beforehand as the ‘naughty boy corner’ is no fun at all.

Sorry Keith, but regret NONE of these have ‘dayglo’ on them! All three have just plain red paint and nothing fluorescent whatsoever! 🙁

Albert – Iv’e duly retired to the naughty corner with Papa L.

Have a couple of pics of the Sycamore at Manchester Air & Space but not sure whether they will consign me to the corner in perpetua!

Well, maybe later today- pluck up courage mode engaged.

    Thanks for the Camberras Les.

What happend to the one that was at Sandtoft (AEW3 if memory serves), Its been almost four years since I’ve been up that neck of the woods. (The Mods suggest that somebody started a Gannet Thread, so well done mate).

In the care of the guys at Elvington. Not seen it myself – cue to get over there and take a closer look.
Nice to be on track with this thread.

    TIA Mr Cranswick.

A few more whilst looking through my archive.
Given the sheer numbers of aircraft internationally that have sported a dayglo finish this thread could run for some considerable time.

Anyone out there with Canberra T.4 , Meteor T.7 Humter T7 or Vampire T.11 pics ? Oh nearly forgot – JP T3 and 4’s.

56-0496 DC-130 taken 91 whilst on a trip across the pond.

Oooooooooop’s I stand corrected, Thanks Albert.
So it begs the question, How many variations on the dayglo theme were there?
