Huge bump! I wish there were more sites like this!
OK, I might be showing my ignorance here but why were they called “Queen Mary” trailers?
Doesn’t Flying Heritage, Inc. in Seattle have an 8th.AF bird with it’s original colors restored to her?
I’d love to see some photos of what it looked like to go after a train from the air so I’ll be anxiously waiting for those pictures! I’ve heard and read far too many stories of pilots going after these smoke belching beasts but never have thought about what the view must have been like.
There’s no flies on us lot, Locobuster. 😀
Yes, TJ, I did see Numan’s plane in it’s new colors on the other T-6/Harvard thread quite an improvement IMHO. I was never really a fan of his music but I remembered seeing some footage of him flying it in the Japanese paint scheme on a “where are they now” show a few years back. My girlfriend went off on a rant about musicians always wanting to be pilots as she pointed to my aviation art hanging above my bass amp 😀
LOL, nevermind my question, I found the answer in the other T-6/Harvard thread. Man this is a great place, my question was actually already answered before I asked it 😀
Is G-AZSC Gary Numan’s old Harvard?
This is quite a few years old but it’s the only photo I have of myself on this computer since my old hard drive failed and had to be replaced. It was taken in October 1999 at the Mighty Eighth AF Museum in Savannah, Georgia and I’m with 20th. Fighter Group ace Harley Brown. Sadly Capt. Brown passed on to his just reward about a year ago. He was quite a character.
Being new here I’ve steered clear of responding to this thread, but now I would like to say one thing:
I view the warbird community and aviation enthusiasts as a worldwide collection of people with like interests. I don’t think that nationality has any real bearing unless you choose to make it a point of contention. Quite honestly, what good does it serve to waste all of the time and energy complaining about something being too “American” or too “British” when we’re all trying to accomplish basically the same thing?
I will admit that I am not as well versed on the RAF as I am the USAAF, that’s one of the reasons I came here, to learn more and to be exposed to new things. Turns out I’ve made several new friends in the few days I have been a member and it’s been mutually beneficial for all of us, isn’t that why forums like this were created?
As for the original question of “Whose heritage is this?” I submit it is all of ours. “What takes priority?” Preserving history and helping others to do the same.
Mark 12, is that a Dornier Do-335 in the one shot?!
What a great thread! It is much appreciated!
Hands down I would love to see the biography of Maj. Jack Ilfrey made into a movie. Failing this I’d like to see a realistic movie about Erich Hartmann.
WOW! Less than 10 minutes and I have an answer, thanks! And yes, I would love to see the pictures when you have the time to scan them!

Wow, so that’s “Texas Raiders”? I had no idea she has been around that long!
Thanks for the info, Mark!
Is that a Sunderland in that hangar??
and a JU-52 next to the Sunderland?
I’d love to know which B-17 that is and if it’s still around. And thank you Mark 12 for the excellent black and white photos!
