Having lived in the south and now an honorary northerner, i’ve gone from having an annual tally of about 12-15 shows a year to about 3 or 4. During my time down south i’ve had the chance to view everything from OW to B-2’s at the hall and most stuff in between. Since moving ‘up north’ the Air Displays have become a lot less but i’ve found that i enjoy them more even though they contain mainly the same thing. Just look at this year and last’s Sunderland show 90% identical at least (though Buff was nice to see this year). A look at elvington reveals 80%- 90 % the same suspects again as the year before. The same with Southport (this is my fave show up north though, mainly due to 4 harriers). So yes down south you do get the varity but personally the organisers need to try harder up north.
Just a bit about OW while i’m ranting  it has been my favourite place until they started to cut back on the budget. There was a spell when they had very very few visiting display acts (i know it had to be done btw to cut costs at a hard time), but this year looking at the visiters and the piccies from their, there has been a bit of imagination put into the shows and a decent smattering of visiting acts so i feel they have got a good balance back and i will deliberatly time my next jaunt down south to co-incide with a show there. 🙂

At a car boot a couple of years ago i managed to get about a dozen copies of Real Photographer news from 1941 onwards, does anyone know anything at all about it, is there a web site devoted to this and other old wartime magazines. Any leads would be good as i’ve not seen anything like this before or after and numerous searches on the web have thrown up nothing.

Just to point out that so far the Harrier GR7 will not be landing at OW, not sure on the other ‘biggies’ though.

The crowd line was about a 1/4 of a mile away owing to having HMS Ocean out to sea, and at least it did not rain. Anyone know why the BBMF spit and hurri cancelled, fair enough the Lanc went tech but why not just have solo Spit and Hurri displays?

Also loud speakers can be moved, look at OW. Grandstands don’t need to be right at the front, if you are in an elevated position you can be further back! Such simple things why don’t organisers think of this, this is after all probably one of the few shows where enthusiasts make up a lot more than the 10% of the gate, so listen to us please.

The food at most outdoor events is rubbish, with the number of events you people go to you must realise this by now so why whinge you know what to expect? Miracles don’t happen it will always be either raw or burnt and well overpriced. Solution take lunch, i always do !

CWH’s Lancaster would be nice, a 4 ship diamond of 2 x lancs and 2 x B-17’s would be cool. Also just for the CAA to change the regs on european warbirds so there can be a ‘gathering of mustangs’ like the old days of legends, i think there was 10 there once? Also the B-29 as already mentioned and maybe the B-24 to come over again. there are just too many juicy items out there to choose from to choose just one ! 🙂

Technical question Lancer, i still use the old film stuff ( remember that, sigh )
so with some of the digital piccies how do you get the sky looking right? with some other piccies from waddo the sky looks squarish yet your typhoon pic the sky looks perfect?

P.S Living in the other end of the country it’s nice to see so many pics of various airshows, unlike tonights footy match you have every angle covered.
