…….and the Bristol Beaufighter
Sally b is always well impressive going round the bend, like all the big aeroplanes though the Catalina and in particular the Canberra were really good, and the Harrier operating from the grass is always special. Another memory also from 96 is when i was on the way home from the Clophill village fete + flying display i decided to go to an evening display on the way home and it has been the only time i have seen the french memorial flights dassault flammant which was a great surprise and put on a good display to finish the day off nicely after seeing B1’s and 52’s at clophill.
Cool, the GR3 always looked to have more character than the modern ones with it’s dolphin nose, if only the CAA were a bit more positive in this country to getting ‘classic jets’ back into the air.:)
My favourite Shuttleworth shows were the ones where there is a lot of outside displays as they always seem to be closer and a lot of them take advantage of the ‘bend’. My top show has to be the Air Spectacular of 1996 which is the best display they have ever had there in my opinion. I went on the Sunday { the day after the unfortunate fatal accident with Pete Clark in the Slingsby } it was a day tinged with sadness but it was on hell of a line up for old warden….. these are the outside acts on that day…………..

Add to this the shuttleworth heavies and a WW1 set piece and you have a show that will probably never be repeated at old warden.
What is wrong with being up at this time of night !!! I’ve had the week off so been getting up at 10 / 11 am so now i’m on the net consuming alcohol { only to keep me sane }
Cannot pass comment on how Duxford runs, but have flown with Denny Dobson and Mark Jefferies and worked in the aviation business for several years.
I must admit it would be nice to see the top side a bit more and the guidelines for their displays are v. rigid. But Mr Hannas displays are certainly more spectacular and lower with a higher amount of G being pulled but surely that makes them more risky. But i too would prefer to see Mr Hanna’s display over the BBMF one.
I think the way the BBMF for example display their aircraft is done in a consistant and safe way and before someone jumps down my throat 99.99% of displays are consistant and safe what i am trying to say is they fly elegant and graceful manouvers with limited aeros and don’t try anything too complex but end up with a good, safe and entertaining display.
Just wondering what visiting aircraft displayed as they save the best for this event.
I’ve been to shuttleworth over 50 times and have never had a problem getting in, though i do come in from the Bedford direction and not from the A1 which i presume is the bussier route.
Also for the military pageant the RAF will be sending the F-3 and the BBMF lanc and spitfire will be a flypast only. Info from RAF website.
