A very interesting thread. In the 70s, a good friend of mine who worked on Nimrods at Kinloss was transferred to West Raynham to “work on Bloodhounds”
as he put it but I could not see the connection myself.
A very nice selection of shots
My friend and I paid a visit to Exeter in August 1969 – we had a look in the hangars on the North side and logged the following:

Always interesting to read a trip report to somewhere different and some of the pictures were stunning. Good Report.

Short Finals – yes you are right. My daughters boyfriend who was in the marines took the picture when they went there on a training exercise.
Like future pilot, I always liked the Iraqi Airways scheme.
As already said, it’s a fairly big airport with plenty going on. Good views from the departures and plenty of viewing points around the airport. In the departures area, there is a small display cabinet giving a history of the airport – something rarely seen at a UK airport. Have a good trip – I quite like it down there.
Great stuff – I am sending this as a link to my youngest daughter who wants to do a round the world trip (and take aircraft photos for me at the same time:D). Looking forward to the next instalment.
Looks like HMS Tiger or Lion.
Old Git, I have that sign on 8mm film somewhere but no photos unfortunately. The sign was slung inside a cargo net ,IIRC. Living in Plymouth, I attended most Navy Days at Devonport. Probably why I later became a ‘crab’!!:)
Lauriebe – I think it was 1964 when I went. I still have the booklet and will see if I can dig it out.

Lovely shots – thanks for posting them. I remember going on the Ark at the Plymouth Navy Days back in the 60s. They had put a huge sign on one of the carriers which said “Please do not feed the Sailors”.

Lovely pictures – thanks for the link.
RAF Millom – a couple of excellent bits of info from your last post in relation to my research. I see one of the Rapide magazines has an article about them by George Pinkerton who was with 602 Squadron at Renfrew/Abbotsinch. I am up and down to Scotland quite regularly and will have to call into the museum next time.
Many Thanks again

I worked with someone who had been in the forces 1941/45 and when he was based at Speke (THE OLD) Airport in Liverpool he was part od the launch system crew “ie the catapult” training Aircrew for the CAM ships.
If you can get hold of any OLD OVERHEAD PIC’S OF THE OLD SPEKE AIRPORT you can see where tho catapult was (it’s just to the LEFT of the Main entrance beyond the OLD INT TERMINAL/Hangar. FOLA may have this photo,
Hope this is of some Help ???
Thanks for that SPIT. My father flew DC 3s into Speke regularly after the war and he took a large number of photos there. I will have to dig them out and have a look.
