Very nice and that’s from someone who’s not a fan of paraffin burners.

I would rather watch a so called “paraffin burner” over something that looks and sounds like a clapped out lawnmower any day of the week.

Funnily enough I was there in Feb 2006 (we came back on the 11th) doing the Hollywood tourist bit with my daughter. I took a few photos at LAX but none are worthy enough to be posted.
As you went in Feb 2006 with Virgin, you should be elegible for a small refund due to the BA/Virgin price fixing. We went with BA and I have lodged mine and my daughters claims.

Wasnt me Old Git..but yes my friend had to make her own way back….

Sorry! not paying attention – just like I was at school:D
I think that is pretty shocking. Surely the airline had entered into a contract with the passenger to take them to a particular destination and is legally bound to get them there?? Some years back my son was on his way back from army camp at Catterick and the train was stuck for hours on the way. It arrived in London around 2am. The tube had stopped running and he had missed the last train from Paddington to Newbury. They paid for a taxi to take him all the way home from Kings Cross. I would have thought an airline had a similar obligation. It would have been bad enough in the middle of the afternoon but 3am really is shocking. If she had not enough money for a taxi, she would have had to wait a few hours for public transport to start.

The secondary runway is 6,000ft long and could have easily coped with a 737 or MD83/88 size aircraft. Jersey has a shorter runway than that and regularly handles these types. The problem (as RIP Concorde has said) was probably that the runway would not have coped with a full load for the return journey but having said that, what was the reason the main runway was out of action I wonder?
It was also pretty shoddy to be dumped at 3am at Glasgow without transport being laid on. Did you have to make your own way back?

Some good shots there Gary, thanks for posting. I was having a cup of tea outside a cafe in Newbury on Saturday when I heard an aircraft flying over and it was the B1 with wings extended, presumably in its way back to Fairford.

The ETPS students fly the gripen (in Sweden) during their year at Boscombe Down.

    cheers baz

Thanks Baz. I thought it was ETPS but I couldn’t understand why a Gripen would be involved with them.

Good Shots – Thanks for posting Ian. What is the story behind the ETPS Gripen? Is it Swedish?

If you had gone to RIAT then you would have spent that money and wouldn’t have seen it again, but you are getting a refund so you haven’t lost anything have you.

Yes agreed but I would have had something in return for it and in this case I have had absolutely nothing back for it. As for saying I haven’t lost anything the answer to that is that it is lost until it is back in your pocket. You might have had an easy sail through life with money but I haven’t. It’s hard come, easy go. You put me in mind of a salesman in our company who is always convinced he has a couple of huge orders every month but they never seem to materialise and he wonders what all the fuss is about when they don’t.

this will kill of any idea of anvanced tickets for next year i doubt many will buy into it next year. pay on the day and see the weather first.

Fully agree – whilst it is most unlikely to happen two years in a row, I am not cherishing waiting upto 8 weeks for my money back and also getting the money back for the campsite. Having paid for all my family members I am out to the tune of nearly £350 at the moment.

You do realise that these pictures were taken at Manchester, don’t you? 🙂

I have to say Manchester crossed my mind. The red buildings in the BAF Viscount pic look like the Manchester cargo area. Nice pictures though.

Does anyone know if they will be allowing the public in at the park and view areas for departures day tomorrow? I already have a ticket

Its usually on the RIAT website but its very much a moving target usually, so the list is only a guide right up until the day before. I don’t think they put up display timings though. I won’t get my hopes up by going to look for the list until much later in the week.

There is going to be an enormous RAF flypast on the Friday though with about 90 aircraft

Thanks Super Nimrod. The reason I was asking is that a couple of shows back I had particularly wanted to see the Mirage 2000 display and it started as we were still at the campsite over the road (after a late night!). I think the answer is a very early start although from what I can see that is looking like pre 6am now to avoid the queues.

If the people we employ is a good indication of standards then I would say standards are getting lower all the time. We take on quite a few people in their late teens i.e. not that long out of school (there are two schools and one college in the district) and nearly all of them have difficulty with spelling and correct use of words. Coupled with “attitude”, it’s almost as if they need retraining to enter the world of work. We had an 18 year old temp a month ago who informed us that she “didn’t do phones” when asked to answer incoming calls. I don’t blame the children so much as the schools.
