Spot on again Tenthije with the Air Plus B747 and the Uzbekistan IL 62. The IL 62 was in the same colours as the upper picture you posted. I think you are right in that it was an IL86 not an IL96 I saw, I always confuse the two. The blue colouring was the same as in the lower picture you posted but the logo was very small, it looked a bit like a crown but very difficult to tell without Binocs.
Thanks for your help again. On a more positive note I managed to Identify a KABO AIR B747 yesterday, helped by KABO AIR being written in gigantic letters on the side
EAL King – I have not seen any “European” B747s but that is not to say there have not been any. Flights are round the clock and the busiest 2 or 3 days usually sees an extra 600 movements a day over and above the normal traffic.

As I said earlier I have very strong views on this for the simple reason that some years ago something truly dreadful happened to a close member of my family (which I am not going to go into here) and the person/animal was never caught.
The victim obviously suffers but so does everyone around them as we were all deeply traumatised by what happened for a long time afterwards.
Now if some people here think that prison was best for Shipman and his ilk then thats up to you but it doesn’t cut it for me and what I would say to you is walk a mile in another persons shoes and see how they fit for size before you make value judgements about their views.

As you may have gathered from another thread Comet I am with you in your views. People here are publically beheaded after noon prayers on a Friday. As a westerner, you are pushed to the front of the crowd because they think we are soft on crime. Up until a few years ago a nominated relative could carry out the execution with the sword but a permanent executioner was appointed after one relative made a bad job of it. Neither is there a long drawn out appeals procedure. A case I remember well was a 6 year old girl was kidnapped one night, taken into the desert and raped, Instead of killing her he left her and once the sun came up she would have died in no time. Quite by chance a bedouin in a truck saw her wandering around and took her into town. The animal who raped her had been stopped at a check point and the bedouin arrived with the girl while they were asking him what he was doing and where he was going. The next day in court the judge found him guilty and his words are worth quoting “You have brought chaos on earth and it will no longer be tolerated, you will be beheaded on Friday” and he was.
Islam may have its faults but they have got that right in my opinion.

I have 4 hours (from 2 till 6) in the afternoon with nothing else to do so I use the weights in a gym on a compound here. I don’t know what age you are but I am 52 in November and I used to do Powerlifting when I was in my late teens and early twenties with the result that my knees and back are now f*****. I can still bench press 140 kilos but I can’t run up the street. I enjoy it still though but my advice would be to join a gym where you will get encouragement and help from others.

I remember that!! They did a couple of short flights during the show from Fairford out over Bristol and back for 35 quid I think it was. I didnt know whether to give it a bash or not and now I could kick myself for not doing it

Thnaks all for your help. The info I was given on another forum was that BEA operated LSI-ABZ-EDI-Northolt (I am not too well up on these codes but I know ABZ and EDI, I assume LSI is Lerwick?) route from 19.5.47 until 31.8.47 when the JU52s were withdrawn (From the route or from service I don’t know). I was just wondering if there had been a way from their UK regs I could trace them back to their wartime service years. I might try Shorts but I will be stymied if I can’t track what happened to them in the war years even if I could get their Luftwaffe IDs. Does anyone know if the Luftwaffe keep records in the same way the RAF does?
    Thanks again
    O.G.

EAL_KING – I don’t know what it represents but I was near the airport when I heard it and then caught sight of it as it passed between 2 buildings. I just saw the tail at an angle but I was actually convinced it was a BA 747.

Thats exactly what it was Tenthije. The tail on that picture is the same tail the 747 had. Funnily enough just after I did my last post I went home for lunch and I saw the Blue 747 going in again at exactly the same time as yesterday. I got a much better look this time but it was some distance away. Theres no doubt its an ex KLM aircraft as it is the KLM royal blue upper fuselage. It looks exactly like the picture you have posted above except for the small Red logo on its (white) tail. Many thanks for your help. I am close to buying a new digital camera so hopefully I will be able to contribute a few photos to the forum soon.

Embarrasment has forced me to add another post before anyone says if this daft old sod can’t tell a BA 747 what is he doing on here I want to stress that it was a momentary glimpse between buildings and I’m wondering if I have the colour sequence of the flags correct as well. I can’t even remember the fuselage colour as I was concentrating on the tail. 😀

    ANOTHER ONE!!

Thanks for your help everyone. My first sight of it made me think it was KLM, it was the small Red Symbol on the White Tail that threw me.

Anyway heres another one – Yesterday another 747 was coming in on approach and again I only got a quick glimpse and I thought it was BA. It had what looked like BA livery on the tail but it wasn’t at least I don’t think so – again only a quick glimpse between buildings. It looked like three long flags fluttering on a white tail – a red on top of a blue on top of a red (Maybe it was BA??!!!?? in which case my identification skills are c***) BA flights here though are B777s which arrive at midnight and this was in the afternoon around 3.00pm)
