Yes its the airport for Lagos which has been the subject of a documentary series on Discovery (I think). It is named after a former military ruler of Nigeria – General Murtala Muhammed. Its is also a risky airport security wise. Planes have been halted on the runway by robbers in the past who have opened the luggage compartments (don’t ask me how) and helped themselves. It seems an odd destination from Newcastle as I would not rate Lagos as a holiday destination.
Lagos is the former capital, the capital is now Abuja.

I think the only physical contact Elvis had with the U.K. was at Prestwick when his flight stopped over on its way to Germany.

I travel regularly on BA and Saudia 777s but they have never over impressed me at take off. The most impressive take off I experienced was in Concorde (G-BOAC) at RAF Fairford in 1994 at the Air Tattoo. The tickets for me and my son cost the old arm and a leg but what an experience, straight out onto the runway after an SU22 finished its display and then blasted off without stopping. When the afterburners turned off, I had the sinking sensation you get in a powerful lift. The other most impressive take off was a BA744 from Gatwick to Buenos Aires.
I would love to experience a take off in a Foxbat or Mig 29 but as usual money is the prob.

One story is that it was a business dispute and another is that it was “repossessed”. I suppose along the same lines as if you don’t keep your payments up on your ford fiesta. :p

Criminals make their victims suffer, so it is extremely sweet justice when a criminal piece of crap gets their comeuppance and gets beaten to a pulp, mauled by a dog, shot, knifed, poisoned, or maimed in any other way.

    Comet,
I 100% agree with you. We had an 18 year old girl who looked after our children who was from Liverpool and she had a false eye (having lost one in an accident). She told me that one day her mum who she lived with had collected her benefit and that night 2 drug addicts broke into their house and demanded the cash. When the mother told them to get lost they got hold of Jane (the 18 year old) held her down and one of them lit a cigarette and held it to her good eye and the mother then gave them the money. They were both caught and got 3 years (which means 18 months for good behaviour) I remember being shocked by this and my view is that anybody who breaks into someones house and carrys on like that deserves a ******** good kicking and I would not think twice about blowing them away either. I think too many people have the idea that Raffles Gentleman thief is going to pop down the chimney with a bag marked “Swag”, help himself to a to a few things, have a sip of sherry and then disappear

As I said earlier, it is probably not much good but it makes me feel better. There are westerners on compounds here guarded by armed troops with heavy machine guns mounted on trucks and they are still terrified. I am out in the middle of it all with nothing. Also bear in mind that if these crazies do pay me a visit one night, I know its not my wallet or autographed photo of Rolf Harris they are after.

    Ren,
I will have completed a full tax year for tax free status in April so I can come back any time after that and that is what I am aiming at. My only worry is finding a job at my age as apart from a hefty mortgage I am supporting my eldest daughter at Uni and the younger one at college. All this trouble only started after Sept. 11th. I have got used to battening down the hatches at night but going out in the day time is what gets me down as you can guarantee a car load of brain dead morons will slow down and shout those quaint expressions “**** You” and “Go home” accompanied by finger salutes and jeering.
I think the solution to my problem is to find a rich old dame with loads of money even though I said I would never get married again. If anyone on the forum knows someone who fits the bill,
let me know I am in good nick for my age and I can still hang a wet bath towel on it 😀

Forget knives unless you are VERY adept with them, and know how to use them properly (there aren’t many who can).

Just a thought – have you ever thought about relocation…..?

Yes you are quite right in what you say, it just makes me feel a bit better and yes relocation is at the top of my list at this very moment, I am sick of checking under my car for bombs and twice in the street outside I have had two attempts to run me down.
I really was getting at what is happening in the UK though, I think it is absolute nonsense that you can be taken to court for harming a burglar. Even leaving aside Tony Martin, there have been a number of people taken to court for giving burglars a good slapping. There may be a lot wrong with the U.S. but I think they have the right attitude towards defending your property.
