Climbing into Whirlwind XJ393 at Torbay sometime in 1982… I was already hooked on aircraft, and I remember being very annoyed by the fat older kid who wouldn’t get out of the pilots seat so I could see the cockpit. He was there for ages and was ragging the controls around like an idiot. Since then, I’ve ‘collected’ Westland helicopters in my maintenance log book… Whirly, Wessex and Sea King! I bet the fat kid is still in the cockpit of XJ393…… (or scrapped with it!)

Blue/grey was also the colour of RAF ground equipment & vehicles for many years… seems like a very common colour!

Ahh a book… I’m from up north, so I’d have to have someone read it to me 😀

Cheers Lee, I’ll check it out.

Paint porn… oh yes! I quite agree, particularly in light of this grey/blue-grey query and the previous orange/red/red-orange/dayglow arguements…

It could be quite the tome!

Now that the colour number has been presented, it would appear that the correct scheme for ASW HAS.3’s was 633 – blue/grey… at least the modellers agree on that one too! … . I shall have to locate some……

    MANY THANKS TO ALL!

Indeed it does, BUT the picture above seems to be more blue than grey… also the original paint below the dark sea grey currently adorning the aircraft is ALOT more blue…. please check… 😀

So here I am, with the responsible job of university lecturer….. dressed as a clown… or more to the point, the Heath Ledger Joker…

How many students (and other staff) rose to the challenge of turning up at an airport dressed as a psychopath?….. none. 🙁

There’ll be no trick or treating – it’s begging after all…. No need to disturb anyone else, just have some giggles with my kids. I don’t think the staff at the local supermarket will appreciate the three of us turning up in facepaint though… we’ll see in the next hour! 😀
