Just a thought for a Northern venue…..
Elvington suffered due to the influx of non-paying visitors to the north of the airfield…… Leeming wouldn’t!
Big runway, big static area, usually quiet RAF station… It would be as good as, if not better than Linton on Ouse as a venue.
The Northern Aviators may toy with the idea of a full blown airshow at Eshott in the next few years….
How many times does this thread need to go in circles?
If you don’t like it, don’t give money to it.
If you favour another project, give your pennies to that instead.
But all told, STOP BLEATING ON ABOUT IT.
As for the thought tha money is being diverted into one project from another… sorry, but you are wrong. If money was not going into the Vulcan, then the Vulcan enthusiasts who have given piles of cash to TVOC et al, would simply have more money. End of….
The thing costs tens of thousands of pounds per month to operate – it is the same as a Boeing 707 / 747 in so far as it has four large and thirsty engines, but no guaranteed income stream. I think its an absolute testament to the people who have donated that it is still flying. Good on them.
Quick question thats puzzled me for a good long while. Below and to the left of the no.1 engine throttle, what is the red spring loaded casing which covers a black rubber button. Asked ex-Vulcan air and groundcrew who say it must have been an inservice mod after their time.
Thanks
Alex
Pilots bomb release switch…….
Look in AP101B-1902-1A Section 1, chapter 1……………
Given that the contact e-mail address is a bouncy castle hire firm in Slough…. I’d say the legality is somewhat suspect……
Nip up to NEAM or any of the many other Vulcan owning museums and have a look around a real one….
Now that would be something… 😀
i’m running the groundcrew side of things up there as well a bringing a couple of our engines and (hopefully) a Chipmunk cockpit, so I’ll see you there.
I’d bring the Ghost too, but we don’t have hiab access…….
I’ll bring the painting I’ve done for the project too…..
Mike, can you confirm that the Great North Fly In is your first public engagement as a project?
(Eshott, Northumberland, 25/26 June)
I don’t know the Lightning, but cutting the wings off anywhere would not affect the structural ridgity of the fuselage. Even if you chopped the spars immediately before the wing/fuselge joint, the spar box would still provide all strength in the fuselage.
The problem would come if you tried to re-attach the wings – your repaired spar would most likely not hold the weight of the fuselage. If you cut the wings off inboard of the MLGs, it’s permanent…..
A location somewhere north of Cambridgeshire would be good. I can only afford one airshow a year at the moment because the good shows are all down south. It costs me and my family nearly £500 to visit Flying Legends…. Thre are 6 of us in all….
The reasons we go there are quite simple – a friendly atmosphere, a superb flying display, and close access to the aircraft. There are no stupid ‘family attractions’ like fairgrounds and very few ‘tat’ stalls… ie ones which sell crap aimed at kids.
My kids are 4 and 9, and they LOVE going to Legends…. they hate going to the Local airshow even though we are less than 2 miles away from the display! (the local show is Sunderland, and to be honest it’s rubbish. The flying display usually consists of a Dutch F-16, another F-16 and a Tornado. The stalls sell non-aviation rubbih, and the organisers charge over £200 for a 4 square metre plot to put a stall on… per day….) Sunderland may be ‘free’ but I wouldn’t go if they paid me…

Three anti-vibration mounts (presumably bolted between a frame and a longeron), and a circular clip which appears to be about 3″ diameter. I doubt it would be an actuator as they are not vibration sensitive………
I stand corrected….
Looks like a mercury…. Gladiator / Blenheim?
Still used today.
If a commercial airliner is on the ramp and it requires a part immediately, the part is requested as AOG, in otherwords we need this part NOW! Most spares companies (LAS as an example) will have a special delivery service for AOG parts where the part will be dispatched before payment for the part is made by the maintenance company. In most cases, parts are with the engineer within a few hours rather than the usual week or so for regular dispatch.

I shouldn’t ask, but on her last re-paint, did the rabbits get put back in her ‘kills’ markings?…. also the T-shirt misses off 20 Japanese tourists from the airshow in 1999…. (I did warn them….)
Well, whatever.
Remember that the free online radar sites don’t show all aircraft – most of the smaller airlines don’t show up.
