I was under the impression the F-35 was designed chiefly with affordability in mind. I have been lead to believe that the F-35 has been designed to be cheaper than the Eurocanards bar the Gripen. So if: “the cost escalation of the Typhoon has spiralled out of control to such an extent that it is now ‘price competitive’ with the JSF.” then the JSF hasn’t been budgeted as effectively as LM initially claimed. If the JSF and EF are now suddenly ‘price competitive’ – all this does is make the EF look better, as it was not designed with affordability as its main attribute. If anything this is more of a tribute to the Typhoon than anything else.

Jon Lake did an interesting article on the RC-135 RJs in Combat Aircraft recently. Covering all upgrades etc… Highlighting that they are all very different platforms. He concluded that the Us are the most similar variant to the Nimrod.

Real world DACT will teach us a great deal about how EF Typhoon and the rest stack up against each other. Simulations like SILVE and JOUST will continue to provide a useful indicator of how they will stack up against other threats – ‘Flankers’ given parity in radar, or even superiority.

Would more or any information at all, be available in a library? Because Queen’s Engineering library in Bristol might be a good place to look – luckily I have access. They spend 3.5 million pounds on books per year.
