Hhhmm Mark,
An interesting and sad storey but possibly reflective of the time.
I seem to recall at that time a storey that an enterprising Russian entrepreneur sold various substantial remains of a single crashed ex Russian Air Force Hurricane to multiple western purchasers who intern all thought they had the right to claim providence of the original aircraft.
As I said an interesting time.
Perhaps one of our enterprising Indian friends thought along similar lines.
Rear pair are siamesed together, owing to close proximity to the wing/radiator.
As Bruce says ….the proximity to the wing had the exhaust stubs as a 2 into 1 with the stub being in a “Y” shape and providing better clearance to leading wing edge.
Doesnt have a place on this forum as far as I am concerned
Magnificent quirky artwork. Brought a smile to my face. Thanks for posting 1958biggles.
Long tiring day was it Halcyon???
You’re quite right. There’s a photo of Stephen Fry and Mark Carwardine visiting a Weta/Jackson facility with Sir PJ, standing in front of a complete Lancaster with a Wellington visible to the side. I think there was a Mosquito in the background? I’ll try find it.
EDIT: Here we are! Take a look in the crook of Stephen Fry’s arm, I think that’s a Mosquito bomber nose. Wellington behind PJ. http://dambustersblog.com/2012/12/30/jacksons-model-lancaster-in-close-up/
And here’s the link to the program, interview with PJ starts around 19.20″
Lovely paint job on 563…1st class
Some nice shots there, love the Latin American Corsair, RAAF Mustangs and the Black Cat. It really looks the the part with that nose turret!
Thank you Tin…we have tried hard at HARS to present our Black Cat Felix as a flying memorial to those RAAF aircrew who lost their lives flying the type. Our aircraft is Ex USN but the nose turrent is in fact off an ex RAAF PBY 5 and the metal work fairing came off a Cat at Pima Aviation Museum in Tucson Arizona.
As a PBY 6A the purist would observe it should have the Goggle Eye turrent with a perspex dome on top rather the current flat top. The dome is on the agenda in the future

This is an excellent coverage of the whole event
Comes as quite a surprise to many to learn that actual eye witness accounts at that time gave full credit to Sergeant Popkin a mere colonial trench digger and it was only later that the “powers that be” decided that there was better publicity if the Red Baron had been shoot down by an Officer and not a mere NCO.
Aaah the distortion of history….
” Will the real culprits be brought to justice ? “
Talk to Mr Putin…..he has the means
Fascinating how many people have forgotten the bragging Facebook post with video of falling plane pieces by the local Ukranian rebels themselves claiming to have shoot it down.
The Facebook posting was taken down within hours and the Russians disinformation department swung into gear with a concocted story that a Ukranian fighter shoot it down.
Why does Russia always act so innocently ?.
Watched it live and a real credit to the team
#2 Engine seemed very reluctant but eventually behaved itself.
Wonderful stuff guys…congratulations
John Aeroclub….that Mosquito is sooooo ugly its beautiful
Back to the Paphos pair… there’s a few bits of correspondence we have on file regarding an approach made to Mr Constantinides a couple of years after both aircraft went derelict. After meeting and surveying them he wanted well over £500,000 for each aircraft; which made any hope of recovering them then a non-starter. The South Africans also tried approaching him for parts and initial attempts were encouraging – but when they arrived in Cyprus suddenly the price went through the roof again.
In Australia we have a saying ….”Tell Him he’s Dreaming” .
Further, Mr Constantinides appears to be suffering from what we tongue in cheek call “Greek Village Mentality” where he expects:
“Gold for his Sh*t but only wants to pay Sh*t for someone else’s gold”.
Unfortunately, until the airport authorities push the issue of none payment of fees, or safety, or eye sore etc this “levendee” (macho man in Cypriot) sadly has the upper hand.
Wonderful news!!!
