Former RAAF SP-2H Neptune formerly of Dubbo Military Museum with a potential plan to restore static or airworthy depending on outcome? – https://www.facebook.com/AustralianLockheedNeptuneRestorationProject
As always Daniel thanks for the heads up and your enthusiasm to want to pass on something interesting to the world wide readers of this forum.
Having inspected Ol’279 a few years during a Museum tour I believe fully that being made airworthy after so many years out in the open is a pipe dream even allowing for the relatively dry inland climate of Dubbo ….but certainly a static display elsewhere would be a possibility.
For those readers not familiar Dubbo is an inland city here in Australia some 300km NNW of Sydney
Here are the co-ordinates to insert into Google earth:
-32.289872° 148.556887°

Our very own Spitfireman (Baz) owns the original B.2 cockpit section of this Canberra.
I wonder how many preserved aircraft can boast that two cockpits survive! The F-111 looks great, looks like it has been repainted in early camo scheme?
Exactly right . When retired in late 2010 they were all painted in the current RAAF standard low-vis grey.
The new colour scheme is in fact the original standard SEA (South East Asia) camouflage as when they entered RAAF service in 1973.
Here at HARS we will be taking delivery of F111C # A8-109 over the next few weeks.
This is an interesting aircraft, its a Vietnam Veteran and was built as an USAF F111A in 1967. Acquired by the RAAF in the early 1980’s as an attrition replacement it was converted to C standards and entered service.
It was infact the very last F111 to ever fly being the last to land after the types final flypast. Total of only ~7,900 airframe hours.

Jeep she looks lovely…..what museum are you?

For the Newcastle Martime Festival I believe.
YYou are correct…..importantly the festival was held on Australia Day……and our HARS Cat did two touch and goes along Newcastle Harbour with Captains Gordon Glynn and Captain Warren Gangos flying, Flight Engineer Les Fischer and Load Master Bob Morrison crewing.
Here’s a link to the late Jim Wallwork’s own web site…..excellent reading

Hi Eyes,
We have two flying Caribou’s here at HARS in Australia.
Contact Bob St John the aircraft co-ordinator. Im sure he help with photos etc.
Good Luck
Can someone explain to this pommy please why do those unwanted airframes had to be buried whereas in the Uk they are just merely scrapped and sent to the smelter, surely that is a far better way to make sure they never appear in the air again? or as with the rumours of buried spitfires in Australia the Australian goverment is ensuring a new rumour will abound in the year 3012
Also why the condition that any display airframes must be behind glass?
Jay
Hi Oldgit,
The reasons were as stated already asbestos insulation and other nasties which could give off fumes during the smelting process.
As to the glass I cant say ……likely to help stop El Qiad from stealing them.
Gorgeous looking aircraft. But more importantly lets hope everyone is safe and can reactivate distress beacon.
However, sad fact is that in the ~300km trip between Monto and Caboolture ….is some the wildest isolated and mountainous wilderness in Australia.
Real Deliverance country in areas….the search may take a while.
