I have a theory (which is not one btw) that the Pr 705 was completly failed and didn’t achive much and the 7 boats of the class didn’t make much trips around in their whole life.
Talk about wasting assets and energy!
Maxpain,
I saw some article about russians using old german U-boot as SOSUS buster.
Have you get something?
Thanx.

tph, with all the data we can get via the public mass-media (meaning close to nothing), how can you tell chinese products are better then russian?
Globally, the shrouded propelled (aka pumpjet) is an effective way to reduce cavitation, but is costing enormously in power.
That is the reason it is only suitable to nuke platforms.
Alosa is the only SSk, and is a trial platform only.
No other SSK has pumjet, not even the Collins or Oyashios, which are the most powerfull.
I don’t think 641s are good boats nowadays.
Even the indians had pretty good records with them, this is more related to crew efficacity then the platform really.
China will interfer with everybody trying to sell any hardware to Taiwan.
Yes, Taiwan tried and still is trying hard to get a hanfull of subs, but the economical risks at stack makes any contender think twice, then back off.
Now, we are in an area of consensus.
USA are not really supporting Taiwan more then verbally, but at the same time, for many more or less obvious reasons, China can’t move either. Status quo.
So Taiwan is not too much at risk so far.
If Taiwanese ppl decides to reunite with the mainland (which can’t seriously happen under the present government in China), then they won’t need subs.
Oh, when did ROCN excercise with US and Japan?
Last time I heard about their subs was they could not manage to fire their torpedoes very well. That certainly can’t beat Foxtrot, which is superior to everything.
The two HaiLung have been upgraded lately to highest standard.
I have pix in a magazine here. The look rather new. The hull paint is shinning and all.
Yes, very lately they had at least one exec with the USN.
Yes, I forgot the tremendous 641. A sub of the future, uh? LOL! 😀
They just got out of a major refit, and did marvelous in the last Ex with the US and Japan. Good training, good doctrine. Ennemy I would fear to have to fight, even with 70+ romeos!
Had a chance to visit the Clem the year she was decomm’d.
She was in a pretty bad shape, and re-work would cost the price of a new boat.
When life is reaching its end, it is not usefull to try to re-vive it. It won’t work.
Had to scrap it.

Whatever is said, this is NOT a pr971 of any sort!

(posted by Canpark).
Makes you doubt of the veracity of the information found on some sites, uh?
They are good, but as it is a fashion online lately, I will say that the chinese songs and romeos will sink them in seconds.
That is to make chinese happy and boast their national pride. As it seems that the reality dosn’t fit them and they bash you when you don’t agree (calling you racist and all…).
Have fun!
As for Titanium, the Soviet Union used to try that.
Yes, tried is the word.
Like they tried liquid-metal cooled reactors and the like. To no avail…
Why do you think the came back to bronze-cupper alloys?
There is fatigue, current materials always have trouble with fatigue, even Titanium in this case.
Nice try, never heard of propellers made of Titanium, ever…
I have been reading the whole thread, and I think few things have been missed.
The biggest turn in the quietning and improvement of the soviet navy (and especially subs), without which no track would have been ever possible is the John Walker spying case.
He gave away so vital information about the US Navy, movement (of SSBNs also) that eclipsed, on the real way, the Toshiba thing.
Toshiba was made public to cover and reduce the charge on the US spy which was not looking good from the Pentagon (bad image).
The web is full today with this story, for example : http://www.crimelibrary.com/terrorists_spies/spies/walker/1.html
