Aerolegends Harvard just circled over the house and ‘Elizabeth’ is up and about today too.
I think realistically the Sea Vixen is not an option – the expense of getting it repaired is one thing but the running costs would be considerable too. Generally speaking I think the classic jet options are pretty limited in what can realistically be run by a charity (the Vulcan was an exceptional case).
If I remember correctly the Sea Hawk was grounded after a problem with the jet pipe – I seem to remember exhaust gases got into places they shouldn’t and caused damage? The Navy Wings website has the following: “She is currently in dehumidified storage at RAF Shawbury awaiting development and funding of a Return to Flight programme.” So by the sound of it – the Sea Hawk is an option.
The musuem has made some great progress recently. Last time I was there they allowed me to take some photos of the Blenheim – cameras aren’t normally allowed into the museum but one of the volunteers asked me if I’d like to take some photos (I only had my phone with me as I know the ‘no camera’ rule so hadn’t taken my proper camera with me). Hopefully I’ll be able to get back down there soon and take a look at the Blenheim and Heinkel at close quarters.
Glad to see that the crew got out ok. I guess that given enough money the airframe is repariable (let’s face it aircraft have be ‘rebuilt’ from less promising starts). The question really is “do they try?” as others have said maybe focus efforts elsewhere.
Excellent stuff thanks for posting.
That looks good to me – nice to see another Spitfire in a more unusual scheme.
Aerolegends are operating out of Headcorn – 2 Seat Spitfire G-CICK ‘Elizabeth’ has been scooting around all weekend. I’ve heard what is either a Harvard or Stearman but not seen it to confirm which it is.
Two seat Spitfire G-BMSB has just gone over the house – looks to be on a trip from Biggin Hill down to the memorial at Capel-Le-Ferne.
Stearman just gone over heading towards Headcorn – looked like the one that does the wingwalk experience flights. Maybe a sign that they’ll be resuming operations soon? If that’s the case we should start seeing the Aerolegends aircraft over the house soon.
Percival Proctor just gone over the house – looking at flight radar it came out of Headcorn. Presumably it’s G-ANXR (no registration showing on flight radar but that seems the most likely aircraft).
It’s the two Aerolegends aircraft – they passed over Maidstone yesterday morning and Shoot Aviation have posted photos on their social media of the two aircraft at White Waltham.
An interesting price of Stirling news:

It looks like the remains of BK716 will be recovered (along with the remains of the crew) from the Markermeer.
