458
Wow i still haven’t come down from cloud 9 yet and a grin from ear to ear:D, i was lucky enough to carry out one of my dreams and had a fast taxi ride in 458…………what a beast she is and the power was just amazing. A huge thankyou to Russell , Dennis and the team at Cranfeild ……….. its a day i will never forget;)
All the best Matt
glad you enjoyed your day..thought you might like to look at this link…it is your run from the outside
red star
spoke to the crew who stripped the paint off 458’s tail and their was indeed a red star uncoverd…..so i am guessing it is indeed xs458
ebay
a picture for sale on ebay shows XS456 with the code dx and the same paintwork as mentioned in previous post, so this might suggest that it is 456 and not 458
have a look
458
Without being pedantic wouldn’t it have been better if someone could say where the event is taking place and at what time to avoid looking up GOOGLE and finding out the cryptic meaning of the post.
I would have to assume [still] that we mean Cranfield in Bedfordshire
as the origonal message reads pm bocar for details….. 458 is kept at a caa run airfield and has limited places avalible, timetable is run by russell along with atc, and i am sure he would be happy to contact you with location and timetable as the events are not just open to general public, it is a rare chance to get up close and personal with the aircraft, the pilot and crew,
the sight ,sound and smell of this wonderfull aircraft are not to be missed and highly recomended,
458
to clear up any confusion the run day will be
saturday 25th July 2009

ebay pic
the last time 458 was re-painted the tail was stripped back, that revealed lots of history and various markings that she wore, the code DY was found but no DX, and im quite sure a big red star would have been a talking point for all the ground crew as well as the very large CCCP on the engine cover,
so i would very much suspect the photo is indeed 452 and not 458 and the picture is defenatly not cranfield
good result
good news…we had a full turn out from the T5 team all repairs are well under way..damm good day’s work from all the team and i would like to express my thanks to the other team members for a good days work.
it was hot and humid but we worked through it and had a spanking day at cranfield…im sure the owner russell carpenter was well proud if the team…well done guy’s
it is a privalage working with you all….long live 458
27 june 2009
hi to all reading this note, russell is quite busy at the moment, but i am sure he will confirm this note as soon as he gets a chance, it is with regret the run planed for the 27 june will now be posponed due to a little technical problem that has developed, it is not too serious however it involves removing parts of the aircraft to gain access, unfortunatly this can not be done in time for saturday’s run
but please be assured the T5 team is working flat out to resolve this issue and XS458 will be fully serviceable for the july run, russell is busy contacting all the people who have booked up for the day, but as i said i am sure he will confirm this information as soon as he gets a moment:( sorry to the people who have booked from the T5 team
lansen
[QUOTE=buccsociety;235811]Does anyone know what the current situation is with the SAAB Lansen at Cranfield?
The last time I saw it was in 2001 and it was not looking in the best of health.
you would be quite surprised how good a condition she is in considering how long she has been left un-attended,however good news is she will soon be getting the care she deserves, and hopefully within the next few weeks she will be taking up her new possition, parked next to XS458, and once the paperwork is sorted out i will be the new owner of the saab lansen
still alive T5
