    hi thair chox
just had a very nice chat with the owner of 458 Russell Carpenter, such a nice plesant chap and very informative, the reason she is in the splenidi colour scheme she wears now is by the way of a tribuite to the lightning and the brave men who flew them in defence of our country, she carries two colour scheme’s, and are seen to be the most instantly recognisable and colourfull schemes that lightning’s wore, she also bares the sqd markings of all the units equiped with lightnings all variants,
hope this helps with your querie about colour scheme, if you would like to know more may i suggest you contact russell via a pm, as i said he is very plesant informative and so easy to talk too.
by the way the lads have a site just up and running and ongoing work in progres at http://www.lightningt5.com enjoy

lots of hits but not many posts i would urge anyone with an interest to pm bocar (russell) and get a place for the day, this is the only place in the uk you can get up close and personal with a fully working T5 lightning, it will be a lot cheeper than going to capetown

    thank you

hi russell it was a privalage to have been thair, and the free hand you let me have with the old gal, sitting in the seat was mind boggeling how john knew what went whair and how was amazing i tried to take in all he told me about the cockpit but although he took the time and explained everything, im affraid i have forgoten most of it, but a very informative guy as were all your team, i would love to come back on the 25 if that is ok with you, to see her moving under her own power and fast taxi would be a dream come true being so up close and personal, will it be “our very own dennis” at the controls?
and if darren is thair im sure their will be some much better photos than i took, thanks again for a wonderfull full day, and lets hope more people take up your offer of joining you on the 25th April
all the best to you and your team
    Graham

    unusual pictures of 458

I would like to thank Russell Carpenter for inviting me along to Cranfield to spend the day with 458 and crew while running engine no2, she burst into life instantly the button was pushed, and was run up into reheat in the picture of the jet pipes if you look carefully you can actually see the dimonds even although it was a bright sunny day, she sounded brilliant and performed flawlessley, a credit to all involved, also the revamp of the firestreaks really sets her off,and i would urge anyone who wants to experiance this wonderfull Tbird up close to get in contact with russell, a truly memorable day, once again thank you so much:D

    battery

hi russell, i rember a good friend of mine stressing to me how important the onboard battery condition really is, im sure a miss start can be quite embarracing with so many onlookers, and im sure their are always plenty of onlookers when you do your engine run and fast taxi runs
good luck with the old gal, i look forward to many more pictures of her,
and if darren is present they will be good he has an eye for her,

    Tbirds v F models

absolute cracking photo’s Darren the best looking lightning in my opinion,
I must admit to being a lightning nut, my personal opinion is that the T birds look so much more elegant than the f model’s, the T4 and in particular the T5 are just poetry in motion, 458 really show’s this off so very well with the colour scheme’s wares, in fact all the colour schemes she has had over the years shows her off so well even the grey, made her look so graceful, much better than the 2 tone camo colours of so many other lightning’s, they may be a practical colour scheme for hiding aircraft on the ground, but dos’e little to enhance the lines of the aircraft, indeed even 458 in camo looks pretty drab, still my preference is for T5’s
and im sure many would agree and disagree with my opinion, but facts also speak volumes, apart from being better looking they are also bigger, more seats, lighter, faster, but just as agile as the single seater’s even the thunder city guys seem to put the T5’s forefront in most of the photo shoots, so I cant be all wrong,
