    What gets me is that bmi say there up against strong compertition up at LBA.

    Now what i can’t understand is that they say there up against strong compertition at LBA. This is not true. bmi regional only operate the ERJ145, 3 times daily and seems to get good loads. If it’s only the morning and evening flights that are doing well why not go down to twice daily and don’t operate the mid day service.

    Jet2 only run a once daily service from LBA which is’nt any good to the business man who only wants to go for a day return. Yes it is good for the kiddies going to Disneyland and for a cheap romantic weekend away in Paris though. While Thomsonfly from DSA only operate once daily and thats into Orly. This service by TOM is also been withdraw at the end of the winter scheduled.

    So once TOM go at DSA and BD go at LBA It leaves whole of Yorkshire with only flight daily to Paris from LBA with Jet2.com.

    Question answered, Thanks for all your replies guys, Its Much appreciated.

    So from what I now understand is they will be BA flight numbers on the following 8 routes only at Manchester once BA Connect becomes Flybe.

    British Airways (Mainline)
    London Heathrow = A319, A320, A321 & B757’s
    London Gatwick = B733, B734, B735 and the A319 every now & Then
    New York JFK = B767-300
    British Airways Franchise (GB Airways)
    Heraklion, Malta, Paphos, Dubrovnik & Tenerife South = A320

    I’ve heard from a reliable source at BMI that the LBA-CDG services will be withdrawn in the very near future as this route is under performing.

    Hi

    This can’t be right. The Paris route is one off the better performing routes from LBA for bmi regional. Theses Flights are always over 35/40 passengers on them. Even though it’s up against a 1 daily mid day Jet2 B737-300 service.

    If any route was under performing from LBA for bmi regional I would say it’s the Glasgow route. Passenger figures a dropping like fly’s just at the moment for some reason. They are having to stick the smaller ERJ135 on sometimes, as they can’t even fill the larger ERJ145 that is scheduled to operate the route.

    If you’d asked this question a couple off months ago though. I would have said the Brussels run would have been axed. But this route seems to have picked up just off late. It’s scheduled to be operated by the ERJ135 but now they are having to put the larger ER145 on it.

    What do the rest off the LBA regulars think???

    Leeds/Bradford International Airport.

    Well it’s been a mix of ups and downs from LBA this year 2006. First up was Jet2.com moved all operations to LBA from its Bournemouth base. Astraeus have announced that they summer Charter based was to be closed. (bmi are coming into replace them next summer) Thomsonfly also closed there based operation.
    Eastern dropped Isle of Man after very bad passenger numbers. But soon after a new airline appeared at LBA, Manx2.com with LET410’s. Eastern started a new Inverness route.
    bmi regional dropped routes to Cork and Jersey but added an extra 5th daily Heathrow rotation. Aer Arann took over the Cork route and also introduced a new destination in Ireland, Galway. Centralwings appeared for a short time on the Warsaw route. but this did’nt last long. now Jet2 fly to Krakow.
    Flybe introduced new routes to Aberdeen and Bergerac in france. While on the charter front Astraeus operated a greece programme of flights to Corfu, Heraklion, Rhodes & Zakynthos for Thomas Cook. The airline also has started the very first flight to Banjul in the gambia from this region. A new taxi-way was constructed at the airport. 2007 Also see’s the airport now up for sale. Several operators are intreasted.

    New Routes

    Jet2.com = Almeria, Valencia, Toulose, Krakow, Arrecife, Dusseldorf, Ibiza, Salzburg & Milan-Bergamo was restated
    Aer Arann = Galway & Cork
    Flybe.com = Aberdeen & Bergerac
    Manx2.com = Isle of Man
    Eastern Airways = Inverness
    Astareus = Rhodes, Heraklion, Zakynthos & Banjul the Gambia.
    Centralwings = Warsaw.

    Dropped routes
    Eastern Airways = Isle of Man
    bmi british midland = Jersey & Cork
    Centralwings.com = Warsaw
    Thomsonfly & Astraeus both dropped bases at LBA

    Jet2 757s appear to have no problems landing in Cat3 conditions at MAN, therefore one can only suggest that LBA has some kind of issue which precludes them landing there in Cat2 or Cat3 conditions?

    Its the great big hump in the middle of the runway that effects Jet2’s B757 CATII and CATIII operations at LBA all acounts. Did hear somewhere else that it can be sorted out with some crew training sorties which are planned for the new year.

    Thomsonfly use to have the same problem at LBA but seem to have it solved on there B757’s over the years.

    Just noticed that the Manx2 flight from the Isle of Man (Flight BPS302) Which should be an BAe Jetstream 31 has now just diverted to Blackpool Airport.
    (UPDATE: He is now on his way back to LBA due in at 18:40.)

    By the way. Both the previously mentioned bmi regional, Embrear 145 from Brussels (BD614) and Eastern Airways, BAe Jetstream 41 from Southampton (T34705) Have now landed at LBA along with the bmi british midland A319 from Heathrow on the (BD417/418). About to join the hold is a Jet2.com B757 from Arrecife (LS218)

    Hi

    As you say both the KLM Fokker (KL1549 to HUY) and flybe (BE644 to DSA) have diverted due to RVR’S here at LBA down to 250 meters with Runway 14 in use at this time.

    But good old Based Low cost airline Jet2 seem to be getting in with there Boeing 737’s. Fight LS196 from Prague has landed along with flight LS266 From Malaga, LS272 from Alicante and LS208 from Murcia.

    Currently in the hold at this time are a bmi regional, Embrear 145 from Brussels (BD614) and a Eastern Airways, BAe Jestream 41 from Southampton as (T34705)

    Anyway it Looks like LBIA’s Air Traffic Control have already see Santa about in the Zone. Wells thats acording to the airports latest press release.

    U.Elf.O” Spotted at Leeds Bradford Airport
    21 December 2006

    Air Traffic Controllers at Leeds Bradford International Airport had a festive surprise last night.

    Whilst working the night shift in the air traffic control tower, a strange sight was seen on the radar. An Unidentified Flying Object was seen travelling from the North and through the Leeds airspace.

    The duty Air Traffic Controller commented “We first had sight of the object as it came over Newcastle, before travelling south. It seemed to spend large amounts of time over residential areas such as York, Bradford and eventually Leeds. All in all it was in our airspace for approximately 45 minutes, before continuing south.”

    In normal circumstances, an aircraft must be instructed to key in an individual 4-digit address, known as a “Squawk” so it can be identified by Air Traffic. In this instance however, the UFO was identified on the radar screen by a 5 digit call sign; “SANTA”.

    Airport officials now believe they have an explanation for the strange encounter.
    With large amounts of redevelopment in the region and new housing springing up, it is believed that the radar contact was Father Christmas making a reconnaissance mission before his busy night on Christmas Eve. It is thought that he was maybe checking out new rooftops and chimneys to ensure he could make a smooth and quick delivery of presents.
    Air Traffic Controllers tried on 5 separate occasions to make contact with “SANTA” but each time the only response in their headsets was the faint ringing of Sleigh Bells.

    It is not thought that Christmas Eve will yield the same results; Santa is not often seen on civilian radar, it is thought that he uses a sophisticated radar jammer that emits a high power Elfomagnetic pulse rendering him invisible to radar. Such pulses are hard to generate without using a years supply of fairy dust, which is why it is believed he wasn’t able to use this technique last night.

    Air Traffic Control at Leeds Bradford Airport will, of course, be keeping a good lookout on Christmas Eve for Santa, and assure us that he is an extremely competent pilot and causes no hazard to Civil Aviation.
