MAST Europe 2016: Portugal updates frigate modernisation roadmap
Alex Pape, Amsterdam – IHS Jane’s Navy International
22 June 2016
The Portuguese Navy is to follow the path set by the Royal Dutch and Belgian navies to modernise its pair of M-class frigates, locally referred to as the Bartolomeu Dias class. Speaking at the MAST maritime defence exhibition in Amsterdam, Rear Admiral Jose Belo Garcia, head of Ships Directorate for the Portuguese Navy, noted that the navy had decided to upgrade the two ex-Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) frigates.
The Portuguese Navy acquired the ex-RNLN ships, decommissioned early under defence cuts, under a 2006 contract. The first vessel, Bartolomeu Dias (ex- Van Nes , decommissioned from the RNLN in December 2007) was handed over in January 2009.

RFS Yaroslav Mudryy in Valletta this week sporting her new hull number.
Any reason to change pennant from “727” to “777”?
Hi,
What’s the name in Cyrilic on the hull (bellow the helipad safety nets) of the following Project 22350 Frigates of the Russian Navy:
Admiral Sergei Gorshkov – Pennant Number 417
Admiral Kasatonov – Pennant Number 922(…)l
Can someone pls clarify if there is any method of attribution of PENNANT NUMBERS to the ships of the RuN? They seem to be atributed rather randomly…

USS Hermitage was decommissioned on 2 October 1989 and transferred to the Brazilian Navy as NDD Ceará (G30) the same day. First commissioned on 14 December 1956, NDD Ceará is just over 58 years old today. Siroco was first commissioned 21 December 1998 at DCN in Brest, France. She is just over 16 years old.
Portugal is also interested in this ship. She even visited Lisbon end of January/beggining of February where she was visited by all senior ranks of the 3 branches of the Portuguese Armed Forces.
google -translation from the official site of the French Embassy in Lisbon:

On this occasion, Ambassador of France in Portugal, Jean-François Blarel received on board the ship highest military authorities of the country. So, on Monday, February 2nd, General Pinto Monteiro, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces (CEMGFA), accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Navy (CEMM) and Chief of Staff of the Air Force (CEMFA), Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army, paid a visit on board followed by an official lunch.
